I have a few questions which may be silly - but I'm willing to ask the dumb questions for the knowledge :(

- Is a stock R33 GTR speed limited to 180km/h like Gtst?

- Are slotted front rotors standard?

- Is the carbon fibre surround standard for the 3 gauge set (front torque/oil temp/boost) on the 33GTR?

- On the pic below of my oil gauge where is the 'safe' range? I would assume where I put the blue marks (in the white bracket would be safe?) Does anyone know what the temperature is of the top white line of the bracket?

- On the pic below I have no idea what this black piping is between my radiator and my intercooler, this photo is from under my car, taken from the passenger side looking across, you can see my intercooler at the front, then the black pipe (doesn't look like its stock) then my radiator behind that... any ideas?

Thanks for any help :)

Yes, it is.

No, they are not.

Yes, it is.

A bit of guess work is involved with the stock oil temperature gauge. I would say the top of the white bracket you are referring to, is around 130 degrees which could be considered as too hot for prolonged use. You will notice, if you go for a spirited drive through the hills, it will get there fairly easy.

Looks like a non-factory blow-off return line.

Thanks for the replies

I have had the oil temp up to about 3/4 of that white bracket at which point i started going a little bit easy on it to let it cool, generally it sits at about 1/4 of the white bracket

Any ideas why it would have a non-factory blow off return line? purpose of it? (as opposed to the standard one)

viewing from the 77 views and the 3 replies maybe my questions weren't as silly as i thought..

Emre answered them all... but im still interested in feedback about my last 2 questions - oil temp and the black tube if anyone knows :)

Oil temperateure can be an issue in GTRs Ferni.

As you've confirmed it's not a hard task to get it up on the gauge, especially if you are having fun through the hills and sitting on 5k rpm and above. Things get worse on a race track, so if you find yourself in the position of cutting your fun halfway through to let it cool down, definitely invest in an oil cooler.

Synthetic oils of today do an admirable job and withstand temperatures of upto 130 degrees and maybe beyond beriefly, but the value of a $1000 mod in the way of an oil cooler could not be denied.

Re: Your non-factory blow-off return line.

It's possible that one of the previous owners may have had blow-off valves venting to the atmosphere and during the installation all the factory plumbing may have been thrown away. So, when returning back to the factory set-up for one reson or another, they would have costom made new piping. It's really not a big deal as long as you have a pair off blow-off valves functioning as they were intended to.

Emre - thanks heaps for your help :D

Yeah exactly right as i'm driving up the hills and/or keeping rpm up aorund 5-6k i can see the oil temp rise... I do have fully synth castrol formula R 10w60 in... I guess i should see how often it happens, if i find myself in that top 3/4 braket often i guess i will have to invest in an oil cooler... if its only rarley i will just ease off when i see it hitting that top 3/4 bracket.

if that is the blow-off return line then where should it be coming from / going to?

The air trapped in the intake (plenum, cooler, piping after the turbos etc.) when the throttle is shut is vented out off the system by the blow-off valves.

The factory setup returns this air back to the inlet to be combusted, hence the reason they are called plumb back. They can still be quite audible.

You have to pull the liners in your guards to have full excess to all the plumbing.

    • Reasonably hard, although I haven't run it with the new Endless setup yet. The old brakes were F50's on 335mm rotors and the car did a 1:40.6 at Phillip Island which is a reasonable time, I'm seeing high 600s on the temperature paint. A guy I know ran the Endless fluid at WTAC without issues and he was doing 1:33's I think (Evo) with a 355/332 setup. I don't get out to the track as much as I'd like but we put the car on the hoist and spanner check every bolt and re-paint mark everything, bleed the brakes, change the fuel, check the coolant system and re-bleed blah blah blah before every event. Motorsport is expensive, RB's are expensive so a couple of hours before an event is time well spent. It's also a net time saving because if you can keep your RB from self destructing it saves you time in the long term!
    • Welcome Alice......hope you have a bit more luck from here on! What was done in the build?
    • Hello! I'm new here, I have an R33 GTST that is currently being finished up! Last year was pretty rough, blew two stock turbos so I decided to build the car. Has been down since November, but I get it back next weekend!
    • Hello, I believe my car was imported to America in the 2000s by Kaizo Industries. Would anyone be able to help me find more info on them? I've only found all the basic stuff like that paul walker bnr34, them being shutdown by feds, just stuff like that. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
