Good gearbox with no know issues: Royal Purple Syncromax, Redline MT90, Motul Gear 300 (most expensive)

Good gearbox with minor crunch issue: Redline Shockproof Lightweight (very popular, I use it myself)

Rooted gearbox: Redline Shockproof Heavyweight

I'm not sure about Castrol to be honest, I've read people dropping their current oil for Castrol and it was worse than the old oil (some even putting the old oil back in)

my synchro's are pretty "chunky". going into 4th now sometimes grinds. sometimes i go to grab 3rd from 2nd and it gets jammed in the middle somewhere.. only when i go from 2nd to 3rd though.

should i try heavyweight first or lightweight?

also does anyone know how many litres you need? (manual 25 box)

Thanks.

I don't know about you guys, but i see the redline oil as a really expensive bandaid fix. By the sounds of it, all you's are really doing is hiding the fact that your gearbox is f**ked. I would rather spend what the redline oil costs on a rebuild kit/or a workshop rebuild if you don't know what you're doing. If the box was operating well it wouldn't matter what brand you used as long as it was the right grade.

a few years ago, i used a bright blue fully synthetic race gear oil. i had a crunchy second gear too. filled up, drove out into street, full noise, into second, no crunch, skids up the street.

be worth spending a bit more than your usual 75w90 gear oil.

+1 for redline mt90 if your box is in pretty decent condition or go the redline shockproof if it's a little worn.

You should use about 3.5- 3.8 litres, but just keep pumping it in till it comes out the filler hole.

    • Yep will do. I have a spreadsheet here of them all. I'll post soon.
    • Prolly need a post in here where you can keep tabs of what got moved where. So, for example, 146 drivetrain and transmission just got dealt with. It would be good to know where you can find the content that used to be in there, and same same for the others that got shifted. I mean - I can see where 146 ended up, with suspension and all, but not all such merges might be so easy to parse.
