3 years old, done over 1,000 laps of Wakefield Park, pedal feels as good on the last lap as it does on the first lap and still only half worn :)

Mite difference in vehicle weights there. EBC yellows worked fine on the track for me, however on very cold days they just had no grip, so were not suitable for early morning hill climbs or street use.

Yup, I had EBC Reds on my first track day and the last session they glazed. If anyone wants them they can have them - after they glazed they never stopped the same again. Basically have 90% of the meat left on em, but are scrap.

BTW, anyone who has standard power up to "usual" mods or even higher....don't read all this and think you need to spend money on brakes.

If you are getting fade with anything under about 300+kw at Wakefield, what you really need is better tyres, less braking, and more corner speed.

So instead of eyeing off that $8k AP racing kit, buy a set of semi slicks like federal fz201 instead.

True there Duncan. Way more time to be cut with better tyres than with better brakes.

This is also a reason we run 10 minute sessions. It allows "standard" equipment to last longer. The extra few laps of longer sessions will really be that much harder on the brakes.

Agree, you need to spend money on good PADS if you already have brembo's for most people, (R32 GTR non brembo calipers are rubbish).

However for me at around 310kw, proper semi-slicks and more corner speed then I should have at times, I am right on the limit of the brakes with a full weight car doing sub 1.10's. I have trouble locking the tyres and the braking is not progressive. Also looking at the very fast guys they all have the kit or have race cars. So I made the decission to order a AP brake kit, at substantially less then $8K. It probably won't speed me up, but might get me more confidence and added saftey.

So in summary, anyone that has GTR brembo's in a full weight car should be fine using good pads up to and below 1.10's, but at that stage you might want to consider how your braking is working. Or you can just buy the AP kit for the look and knowledge it is cool :).

glad you said this, was feeling pretty bad about my qfm a1rms lolol.

seems like the sky really is the limit for modifing a car!

my stock calipers on the s15 were good for low 8's with decent fluid and pads.

After upgrading to AP calipers up front, the only difference is the pedal works everytime you put your foot down, unlike the stockers

Well talking during this event between other execs, I'm going to see about Eastern Creek and pricing there vs Wakefield. Not promising anything, but will see about pricing and go from there.

Either way, won't be in 2012. The club just cant afford to keep losing on events like this.

It's funny, members come to the AGM and say there's not enough events, so more are put on, then hardly anyone enters - so it makes you (well, myself and the others who put all the effort in) wonder why bother

yeah that sucks dude, maybe some more alliances could be made with other car clubs like ozhonda and the wrx forums or attempt rotary again (dont know story behind that last time)? i got my mates looking for events through them but not to much is going on and we cant lower ourselves to look at holden forums lolol.

dont know how there always booked out when were struggling to find an event, i guess theres lots of speed of street days and stuff.

cant beleive were struggling for numbers in SAU events, i think people may get scared off from a 'track day' idk. to maybe beaters out there not enough car enthuasts owners imo.

you dont need a 1000kw car to have fun.

completely understand about losing money through the club though!

eastern creek would be awesome! if it didnt go much over 250 for entry id defs be there!!

although who knows whatll be happening in 2013, buying a house, going to europe and what not :P (hence the keeness for this year i guess)

It is a real shame that we don't have the numbers coming to the events. It makes it really hard cause those that are keen want them, but the financials cannot be ignored. I limited this year to this track day and the up-coming SAU Nationals for SAU:NSW involvement to limit our financial exposure.

Even with the agressive pricing at an overall loss we still fell short on the numbers.

We will be discussing this and our approach as an executive team. We'll look into alternatives and approaches.

yeah for sure, is nationals really at wakie this year??

is that for fast cars or can you have fun too??

yeah i have no doubt the execs are doing there best to make everyone happy, thats why im not to keen to stray from sau event wise. like to keep my money within the club, plus theres lots of formiliar faces and there run really well.

Expect to add roughly $200 on top of your $250 for an EC day that isn't packed to the rafters and getting no track time.

Last time I checked, it was 3 times the price of Wakefield park. From what I've heard from others since, it has gone up a touch since then...

    • You're making my point for me. 95 is not "premium". It is a "slightly higher octane" version of the basic 91 product. The premium product that they want people to buy (for all the venal corporate reasons of making more profit, and all the possibly specious reasons of it being a "better" fuel with nicer additive packages) is the 98 octane stuff. 95 is the classic middle child. No-one wants it. No-one cares about it. It is just there, occupying a space in the product hierarchy.
    • 98 and 95 have to meet the same national fuel standards beside the actual RON.  91 has lower standards (which are quite poor really), so 95 is certainly not 91 with some octane booster. It would be an easier argument to claim 98 is just 95 with some octane boosters. Also RON doesn't specify 'quality' in any sense, only the octane number.  Anything different retailers decide or not decide to add to their 95 or 98 is arbitrary and not defined by the RON figure.
    • Anyone know alternatives to powerplus tungsten? Can't find an alternative online.
    • 95 is just a scam outright. 98 is the real "premium" with all the best detergents and other additive packages, and at least historically, used to be more dense also. 95 is just 91 bargain basement shit with a little extra octane rating. Of course, there's 91 and there's 91 also. I always (back in the 90s early 2000s) refused to put fuel in from supermarket related fuel chains on the basis that it was nasty half arsed shit imported from Indonesia. Nowadays, I suspect that there is little difference between the nasty half-arsed shit brought in by the "bargain" chains and the nasty half-arsed shit brought in by the big brands, given that most of it is coming from the same SEAsian refineries. Anyway - if there's still anything to that logic, then it would apply to 95 also. 98 is only made in decent refineries and, as I said, is usually the "premium" fuel, both in terms of octane rating and "use this because it's good for your engine because it's got the unicorn jizz in it!".
    • Yeah since those first 2 replies I actually went and put some 98 in it and tbf it's already doing much better than the 95 (which is weird and makes my inner tinfoil hat wearer think the 95 was a crap batch), getting 8ish around town. Again, wonder if it takes a while to stabilize if the fuel is changed a couple of times. I swear cars used to just either run "well" or "s**t* in my 20s, none of this fuel optimisation business haha
