Hi Guys,

Before u flame i did search and was unable to find solutions to my issue.

Ok well i have just purchased a S1 R33GTST and noticed the following...

It seems like something electrical is causing my rev tacho 'OEM' to jump around like crazy, hopefully this is an common issue and can be sorted without too much fuss, i bang the dash a lil and goes back to normal but i dont like beating my car ahaha.

Also can some1 hook me up in Perth area with some strut braces to suit?

Much thanks,

Smitherines..

Also, check my job on restoring the headlights :-)

Pretty stoked on the outcome.

I originally intended to keep the lights on the car but found 1 had water in it so i baked and re-sealed.

I have coated the lights in 3 x layers of UV protectant to avoid this happening again.

Yellowing = GAY

Yes it is the throttle sensor, my car runs like sht when im mucking around and forget to plug it in!

you will find some broken wires somewhere unless you have some ecu that dont need it (doubt it)

Also see a vac line missing, there important for proper turbo/inducion operation

Next job's to fix...

Rev tacho has finally stopped working totally, so i will remove in the morning and suss out.

The hi-cas light comes on now after about 10mins and stays lit, i have searched around and found that it could be due to the after market boss kit, if anyone has pointers for this help me out please. Tried the diagnose function but couldn't seem to get it in that mode??? help...

But after re-calibrating the TPS the car runs like a hot curry

Also i will say that it seems i have had no help from many on here which is a little of a let down

Thanks mate, i found this vid the other day and tried to go into diagnosis mode but it didnt do it, i've tried like 10 times... i've just bought the car so i might have a look around n see if the is a there is a tomei hicas lock unit on the hicas unit...

Any reason why no1 is helping me out?

Regarding solder joints, i had the tacho out this morning and couldnt see where solder is used, did you have a rundown of this??

Thanks again.

Oh and i think i know maybe why its not going into diag mode, the after market steering wheel????

iirc you may need to get a hicas adapter / boss kit..

it took me a few tries but you have to turn it quickly to engage it.. but if you have done that it could be the steering wheel.. the above video the guy has an aftermarket steering wheel so it may be something else..

the tacho may be a wiring issue also

    • Just came across this, but in QLD I start leave again in 2 weeks, if it is still available I might drive up and check it out Unless, @MBS206 do you live near here????, if so I could hit you up with a finders fee https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/hope-island/auto-body-parts/nc-mx5-factory-hard-top/1328976391
    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered
    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
