Looks like something similar to what I put on my old R33. It goes across the temp sensor and tricks the ecu into thinking the engine is always cold. Have you ever noticed your car feels a little bit quicker when its cold. Its like that all the time when the chip is fitted..

Did you think the ecu needs to see accurate temps by any chance, to keep the fuel mixture in check?

yes and no, all this will do is make it richer or leaner depending which way it alters the temp

Other than having to hack up the AFM wiring it would probably work as intended on the VQ. Jetwreck should know, he's melted pistons before.
