Hi mate,

have i missed the price somewhere? I am geniunely interested but need alot of questions answered.

How did the piston crack look/where? is there actual compression readings across the cylinders?

I have just been quoted ~$2000 to exchange a motor across 3 workshops across sydney. Is the quote to fix the

piston only or include removal and install of the motor?

Will one piston just be replaced for $1300. Who will be doing this? will headgasket be reused? choice of bearings?

Can this person your using rebuild this motor to my spec seeing its going to be apart already?. No point pm'ing as

im pretty sure theres plenty of other people asking the same questions.

Cheers

Very valid questions, and your right its very good for everyone to know.

compression across the rest of the motor is outstanding, 170psi, 170, 168, 170, 170 and then cylinder #6 35psi and 50psi on a wet test. first time i did the tests myself i got in the vicinity of 150 but then i noticed my gauge was a little screwed, so i just had it check properly, and then checked again myself with a new gauge to verify the 170psi readings.

The crack is more of a fracture in piston #6, and the rings which were giving the low reading , The valves and cylinder are fine, not bent or anything.

The cause of the problem was a faulty boost crontroller solenoid ( $30 - $50 ), spiking of the boost i was told led to this.

well yes i mean it works out perfectely for anyone looking to do a rebuild anyway or who has a engine ready for a gtr or something similar...

my quote and intentions were to return the car to its normal state with all the mods still ofcourse.

so anyways... basically pull apart the pistons and replace anything surrounding that is needed e.g rings , im not 100% certain what bearings would be used. im pretty sure i would have sourced some decent looking used parts where i could, reason being it was fine handling the power if it wasn't for the boost controller solenoid. i know people may disagree but sometimes money isnt always available when needed.

A close friend quoted to do this for me if i chose to go down the path myself,

i was going to forge the motor if it didn't sell but with certain issues at the this point, im not going to anymore. im going to sell/swap the way it is.

I hope this helps and havn't missed anything. if you want to talk further PM me ill give you my phone number.

alright fair enough, bad luck with the solenoid mate.

check your inbox i sent you some more details, ive got some parts from my previous r33.

let me know also when your free tomorrow

Bump...

Should be gone shortly, haven't been in hurry lately so i apologise to the guys wanting to come out just been very busy.

Always has been a top car to drive, especially down to canberra once a week for a few months straight. receipts for work and dyno papers to come with, always been looked after. really a shame that a small $30 solenoid caused this. A couple of SAU members have had the car checked also and have told me their quotes are pretty much the same as mine, give or take a few hundred.. probably give more so :)

Just have some common sense, if your going to offer me 10k think about it.. your getting a 12k Gtr ...please save your time and dont have sulk when im an asshole back. :)

losing the company vehicle .....

willing to put a few thousands on top for a swap.

otherwise i got no choice but repair and wait close to a month for it to be done through my mechanic.

Update

It's in the Workshop now!

Might be getting fixed if i can get it done quicker than 3-4 weeks. otherwise still selling as is.

Inspections may be a little harder now, however PM and we can sort something out possibly over the weekends as during the week will be very hard now.
