I have seen a 33 with duel tips. They were smallish(not as big as the above picture, 2 or 2.5"), came out on the same side with a slight angle (Jap style). No adjustments were made to the rear bar, and it looked oh so cool.

If you have single exhaust pipe that splits into two tips, the extra weight would be minimal, no more than stock exhaust box.

Loudness really has nothing to do with dual/single pipe, it has a lot to do with the type and size of muffler, where it is installed, and any extra resonators placed in the system. As I see it two smaller pipes with smaller diameter mufflers may give better ground clearance, but be heavier and more expensive though.

In practical terms it is always easiest to stick with whatever type of original system was on the car in the first place. Just copy it with a slightly larger diameter system. If the original system had a resonator, it was put there to stop droning or exhaust resonance at some particular speed. Copy the original system as exactly as you can, including all the original mounting points, just make it all a slightly larger diameter.
