Hi guys,

Just a quick questions - Does anyone have test pipes or a high flow cat with a stock exhaust? I want my car to sound a little louder (want to have that sharp vq35 sound) and was wondering if adding test pipes or a high flow cat would do this?

Also am I right in saying test pipes are illegal whereas a high flow cat would be legal? Does a high flow cat make the stock exhaust sound any louder? and would us products made for the g35's fit the v35's?

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

There is a product being sold second hand close to where I live -

SUS CAT through pipes for VQ35 Z33/350Z/V35 sec/h

Are these basically test pipes for the v35? would there be any performance gains at all? Any sound difference?

ohh and why do people say test pipes smell? (I'm guessing its the exhaust fumes that smell different when they are installed and not the actual test pipes themselves lol)

Edit. Won't be going test pipes as they are very illegal!

Any experience with high flow cats? can I keep my car legal with high flow cats? and do they make the exhaust sound louder/nicer?

I have motordyne Engineering test pipes (ART Pipes) and they're amazing. Although personally I wouldn't recommend putting them on a white car as its makes cleaning a pain in the ass.

How about y-pipes on a stock exhaust? Any sound difference?

Sheldon I don't think I'll go test pipes as I'm trying to keep my car legal atm. Do you notice any smell from exhaust fumes?

I just want to enhance to sound of the exhaust, without going all out

You should really think about the whole exhaust system from engine or header back... A option maybe to run with Motordyne ART pipes with Shockwave Dual, which allows you to have a HFC after the Y-pipe. The Shockwave Dual is Motordyne's second masterpiece because of it's modular design and the first been the ART pipes... Although there is a technicality with that arranagement as the relocation of cats is deemed illegal, but I'm not sure if they will spot that out without a full undercarriage inspection.

Anyways, there's been many people getting Berk HFC, but I'm getting Kinetic HFC. You should join G35driver, they have a lot tech support and information.

Don't really have anything to add to what others have said.

That being said, I have a true dual exhaust system still in box at the moment if interested

It's an X02 / KCR (HKS Replica), it was meant to go on to my mates v35 unfortunately he got sandwiched and written off before he could put it on.

shoot me a PM if you're interested.

when a catalytic converter ends its life, the smell is like rotten eggs.

without a cat altogether, its more like a raw fuel smell.... but different. if you go for a quick burn for a couple km with plenty of high revs then switch the engine off as soon as you get home, you can smell something close to that smell.

a smart cop/inspector will recognise the smell straight away...

nothing beats the smell of following a car on avgas ;) ah the memories
