Some sort of progress.

Emailed PPG yesterday and asked if they will do a straight cut 1-4, helical 5th synchro box for me. They said yes!

Waiting on pricing.

They did say, it would be a good idea to go to the bigger input which will mean clutch modification, so ill male some calls with that tomorrow.

When you removed the Active LSD did you have any issues with the ABS not working anymore? Did you replace the ABS computer or leave in the one it already had?

No issues with ABS at all.

When I changed the front diff it played havoc with the rear though.

So will it be syncro straight cut 1-4 helical 5th?

Yeah mate.

Not keen on dogs and I can deal with a bit of noise in the lower gears.

Apparantly PAR do what I'm after but I want a PPG set.

This set will use all the Series 3 33 gear inside, so servicing shouldn't be a drama.

Should have a price tomorrow.

At the end of the day, it's still a street car with full interior. I don't mind chucking the keys around, so if I have a hard to use/expensive to repair box, it sorta takes the "easy to drive" away from it.

Will the straight cut fix the 2-3 issue if it's still syncro? From my time with the dog box think I'd rather the dog gears than straight cut especially at your power level shifting speed is so much quicker. After some practice u get pretty smooth mine lasted 4 years and probably 15k km's without issues or servicing until I sold it.

Bah. The guy misunderstood me with what I wanted. They won't do the "mix n match". He is trying to sell me the dog set, saying his old lady drives it no problems.

:(

Well you do have a tiny shaft.... so probably a good thing to get an upgrade :whistling:

    • Hi All Does anyone know what size bolts are used to mount the bonnet hinge to the bonnet on an R32 GTR please? I'd usually just buy them OEM but they are nearly £20 each and I need all 4
    • interestingly enough, i found out the answer is yes. doing a flush did fix my recurring A/T light. it might have been because of the trans filter: but that doesn't really make sense to me. the fluid/filter was super dirty. would that increase the pressure in the lines and trigger an A/T light? does the car even have a way of detecting that? i have no idea. i've done 200+ miles after the flush and no A/T light. if my A/B solenoids went bad, i would think the light would've come on. shifts and drives way better now though...at 2k rpm instead of 2500...no hesitation and downshifts when i want it to.
    • I vote go red. Only because I hate keeping gloss black clean. Was no worries helping out either! Glad you've survived the rain outs of QLD
    • I would again like too thank Matt for his help in me sourcing the detachable hard top for the little red car, without Matt's assistance in inspecting it and locking it down, I can guarantee it would have sold before I could get up to see it,  and as that was the only available NC hardtop in Australia, I consider myself extremely lucky on multiple levels To say I'm more that happy would be an understatement And, it is 100% water tight, I drove through torrential rain coming back south, and by torrential, they type of rain that doing 40kph in a 110kph zone was a real thing, and even then, the standing water on the Hwy was deep enough to throw waves I'm also more than happy that the huge "BEASTS" that Matt calls dogs didn't eat me for lunch, I'm sure the sniffs and licks were more to "taste test" me, over being to friendly Now to work out what colour to get it painted, panel match, or gloss black........first world problems are real
