Spent 6 or so hours cleaning up mine best I could with a die grinder. Took heaps out but hopefully not too much. Bolting a HG SS2 to it. Just waiting for the head which is getting heaps of port/chamber work and cams.

That's similar to my setup, although I'd call the approach mild. Removal of sharp edges, smooth out transitions, etc.

Cast manifold has lots of areas for small improvements around each runner, but the collector area is all about achieving tight packaging. The telltale blue indicates it is clearly the hottest and most stressed part of the manifold, so while there is scope for good improvement in the collector, I stayed reasonably conservative with the amount of metal removed so it won't fatigue and crack.

I'm happy with the overall result

How are the ported manifolds going for you guys?

I've got a stock rb25 exhaust manifold sitting in the shed and a die grinder. Going to give it a crack sometime soon.

Would wrapping the thing in exhaust heat wrap do any good?

I ground the crap out of mine. Port matching plus 1mm oversize each flange compared to the ports. Opened the collector up to gasket size which was quite a but then opened up everything in between I could get to. Then flapper wheeled everything to polish it up. Expecting my turbo back from Stao any day to give it a go. Each port was poorly lined up to the head from factory and could see the carbon marks on each flange
