Hi guys

I am finally comfortable taking my car to the track after getting some perishable bits replaced.

But before I do so I want to put in a oil cooler. Now I don't want to spend more than $500.

That basically eliminates all the jap brands.

Are there any recommendations from you guys for a oil cooler with a thermostat that has been put through its pases?

I have found the driftworks one, trying to stay clear from eBay specials.

Thoughts queries?

Link of oil cooler in interested in.

Would rather not put a second hand oil cooler in. Can flush it put to a extent but you never know what's in there.

Running a second hand trust oil cooler and relocator kit i bought off a fellow SAUer on mine, flushed out and cleaned before use and is a fantastic bit of kit

With proper cleaning and flushing any kit will be brand new just need to take the time to do it properly

I believe I saw a HKS kit in the forsale section

Still too much of a scaredy to cat to go second hand on a oil cooler. To me it feels like buying a second hand oil filter haha.

Mocal is a good brand - looks like a well priced kit - new is safer.

Thats good to know. Might actually stick to my original.

Have you looked at DIY'ing a kit? Greenline can source genuine greddy thermostats/take off plates for ~$200, leaves you with $300 for a core and two lines.......

No I have not considered this. If I dont get a kit then I might aswell experiment with a DIY kit.

There has been a group buy of a UK brand kit (can't remember the company) that was in your price range.

Indeed there has, HEL was their name, braided lines are their game. (couldnt resist)

Setrab make great coolers, check them out.

Will have to look at this as well.

Go for the mocal one driftworks sell ,good vaule for money.

Are you running one?

Thanks for the help so far guys. Much appreciated. Keep em coming

You guys think for a 2,3 time a year track warrior like myself requires a 19row core? Seems a bit extreme to me, but maybe seeing as its thermo it doesnt matter, just means when things get hot the cooling will be better due to larger surface area? correct? Or should I go for a 10, 13 row.

install an oil temp guage, are oil temps going over 120-130c? if yes, install an oil cooler, if they are still going over that you should have installed a larger one.

I have never had the car on a track. As for drags and hill driving (mucking around) I have not seen those temps rise that high.

This is basically just a precaution prior to going to the track. Wise decision? Or am I being silly?

I would hit the track first, with an oil temp gauge which I'm assuming you have. If you see your temps getting that high, take it easier and make plans to get an oil cooler. Chances are you won't see them get that high on your first time out anyway, unless you go on a hot day. Until you actually need an oil cooler, it's just another thing that may go wrong and cause problems.

I'm recieving this in mail soon postage was 10 pounds so 250 pounds all up not to sure how conversion is atm.

They have 10 row up to 19 row kits all awesome quality remember another member referred me to the website and he's been very happy with his kit. There is a 19 row kit specifically for the skylines/silvias but if you mention the car it is for they will supply the correct sandwich plate
