Does that kit include a thermostat?

It just says, that leaves a space for a oil and temp sensor

use a der-15702 sandwich plate which has inbuilt thermostat ( $92+ )

Dont waste your time on a thermostat. It adds to the number of required adaptors and sections of hoses...over time the first thing to fail on an oil cooler setup will be the thermostat which can get gunked up with carbon etc...and why do you need a thermostat? Its a pretty silly think for 90% of Australian cars. An oil cooler isnt going to do sh1t when you are sitting in the garage with nbo airflow going through the core. And when you drive out your driveway and down the street at 30km/h there will be jack all air going through your cooler and bugger all temp drop.

A cooler will only work when you have a large temperature difference, or delta T. So coolers will only really start to work when your oil temps are getting up to 70deg C in the first place.

So, if you are doing it on a budget, get a good quality core and hoses and ditch the thermo stat. I do 10,000-12,000kms a year in my car and I have not run a thermostat ever in my setup which has been on the car for 11 years, and I lived in Richmond NSW that sees some pretty low temps and often in rural Vic/NSW and still on a std motor getting the ring thrashed out of it and has been liek that for the last 7 years with reasonable amount of power through it.

If you plan to run e85 you want the temps up around 80 degrees at least so the ethanol evaporates out of the oil.

I run a thermostat so the engine warms quicker. The Greddy one I use never seals fully, they always bypass around 10% and if they fail it just wont cool quite as well.

Got a Question, are these coolers pretty simple to install onto a r32 or will i have to have peices bent and welded/whatnot to have it fit properly?

has any one bought a cooler here which was easy as to install...

sorry about the dummie questions i just dont wna make a massive headache for myself if i can avoid it by brand 2 brand.

Your gunna have to make brackets to mount it, get your cooler and have a look around for a good spot.

People put them in all kinds of places, try google images for examples.

In the end your gunna have to use your brain or pay someone to do it.

Ps Canberra gets cold, im using a thermostat.

Youll pretty much have to use your own L brackets or whatever else you need to make it fit its nothing to hard. The only ones that are bolt in are the jap ones that are model specific. Some usual places people mount them on the side in the guards or infront of the the radiator.

yeah looks like ima do the L brackets trick, im probably gna mount it down the bottom where the passeneger side front bar vent is. i wna get a themostat one too.

My oil cooler is in and functional now. Bought a Vulture Motorsport 15 row kit some time ago, and Brendan supplied me with an additional line for $20. Got a Greddy thermostat plate for $220 delivered. Few metres of spiral wrap and electrical tape to help protect the lines from rubbing. Full kit with everything I wanted for $600! So far all good, no leaks at all and warms up in the same time. Made a big difference today in hot weather with the A/C on, usually the coolant temp would be above 80 very quickly, but sat bang on 80 and held there non stop. (as in the extra cooling of the oil has helped the coolant temps)

I was talking to a bloke at TSI today. I said to him, wouldn't it be a bastard of a job to service if i locate my oil cooler behind the bar... he said you can buy coolers with a drain plug sorta thing like the sump drain plug, just wondering if you guys can confirm this if you know of one that has it ?

Um, the oil pump/filter is on the driver's side. Shorter lines and easier install to put the cooler behind the driver's side bar vent. Just sayin'.

hay mate, i didnt read through ur whole thread to see if anyone else said this but it an oil cooler, not something u really want to skimp on money with (so ebay non brand names r out of the question) but some brand named ones r very over priced! and there noramally a kit so u have to put it where they tell u too which i think is shit. something like a PWR cooler is a great idea cause u can get it positioned where ever suits ur car and air flow best and u wnat to keep the oil lines as short as possible so the pump doesnt have to work as hard to move the oil a long distance.

my house mate is selling a hks cooler that was barly on his car incase u want a good second hand on and ur mechanic can make a bracket and put it where ever u like. pm me if ur interested.

i run a pwr cooler and it sits on the passenger side of the front grill, gets loads of air flow and has really short lines.

hope this helps! and hope u enjoy ur rig at the track, its the most fun in the world

You should have taken the effort to read my thread. Im not considering ebay brands brah. Im considering a affordable alternative to a jap brand, and not going second hand.

Im using a Setrab in mine. Its huge, must be atleast 40row

Seriously? thats huge. your oil must be sub zero all the time haha
