So ive been reading abit about the 26 heads compared too the 25 heads and ive been weighing up the costs, im kinda leaning going for the 26 head for a few reasons but cost wise i still dont know, heres my logic lol

RB25 head

CONS:

Forward facing plenum - 1k-1.2k (yes ile loose low down torque  )

1000c DI injectors, 680$

Fuel rail 100$

has hydro lifters, though my limiter will be set too 7k because it will live on it, so this wont be an issue.

so the cost will be around the 2g mark

Turbo 1200$

PROS:

dont have too swap a head

RB26 head

found a few for around 1500 and complete r33 rb26s for 3g from the wreckers, so i could just swap sumps and run a complete 26, or many i cant i dont know much about 26's.

An RB26 with the stock TT would probly be a nice combo for drifting, i could sell my RB25 and get some many back that way too...

PROS:

already has a FFP

Head flows better

Solid lifters

Twin Turbo

Fully sick RB26 tappet covers!

CONS:

Gaskets 200-400$

ARP head studs 100$

Still have too buy 1000cc DI injectors (running E85)

So im still going too have too spend more on the RB26 head in the end

My question is, Is this worth it or am i just wasting my time and money for a few perks.

already has a FFP

Head flows better

Solid lifters

Fully sick RB26 tappet covers!

More Cons to the swap

3K on a motor + wiring + 2x new turbos + new intercooler plumbing + sump mods

20 odd year old rb26's dont like being flogged, so expect to spend 8k+ on a rebuild when it goes bang

Standard turbos will make around 250-260rwkws and as I mentioned will likely go bang pretty quick

By the time the swap is complete expect to pay $10k for something that will be halfway reliable and will be outperformed by the RB25 with half as much spent

If you want to use it for drifting in stock forms the rb25 and rb26 the 25 will be more reliable as the 25 arent effected as badly by oil starvation and while drifting the oil is going to be thrown around everywhere. I would rather a single turbo like a 3071 or 3076 with 300kw on a safe tune which is perfect for a r33 drift car similar to my setup than going a twin with the 26.

In regards to wanting to put a 26 head on the 25 bottom I dont really see any worthwhile gains youll have for one youll lose vct. Imo stick with the 25 slap on the usual bolt ons, chuck in some 256 poncams if you want to beef up the midrange a bit and tune on e85 for a safe 300kw all day everyday cheapest and most effective way for a r33 drift car.

it's not just the 26 that suffers from oil starvation, it's the attessa system that allows the GTR to corner harder

the 25 suffers the exact same oil starvation problem, however when it gets low in the sump the gtst doesn't produce the G's that the GTR does to slosh the remaining oil up agains the side of the sump and away from the pickup.

also a 25 sump will not fit on a 26 block as the pickups are in different locations. it's much easier to cut the front diff off. (i have a stagea 25 in a 33)

If you have to do any swapping at all, the only smart swap would be to go to a 25Neo. You get your solid lifters, you get to keep VCT, you start with a single turbo instead of twins, you get some RB26 internals (OK, rods and oil pump, whoopdedoo, but they are better than vanilla RB25 stuff) and it will be much much newer than an affordable RB26. Mounts up to crossmember and gearbox without any sump issues to spend more money on, etc etc.

did you measure the heights of the pickup? if so were they the same?

26 sump is 5.5lt alloy and 25 is 4.3 coca cola can

imho it's not only easier to cut/weld the 26 sump but you get a better sump

Very very cool, and thanks for the lesson! I love your unique ink!

Dude don't post your dribble here!

They work the pickups are almost the same height the 26 has a better baffle if you would call it that. I made it rear sump so kinda defetes what we are talking about but yeah. The 26 block still has the pickup location for the 25 it's just not drilled

sorry for the late reply, was playing footy, f**k id be lost without you guys haha, thanks for all your input!!!! My engines a S2 RB25 with around 80k on the clock, had a RB20 that put no' 4 and 5 through the block, holy f**k it went bang! lol also VCT isnt currently connected, because im awesome at forgetting things when i built the wiring loom i forgot the vct and wiper motor hahaha, but ile have that sorted, i played with it on the dyno and gained 40hp in the mid from just connecting it, mind you it went too about 14:1 =O, my plans were a G3 Turbo from HyperGear, but i spoke too someone who knows more about turbos then most tuners in australia lol, going with the GTX30/76 and im not going to go the FFP, just hate the look of the stock manifold

If your not happy with the stock plenum then buy a greddy copy or the real deal or you can go custom. Forwad facing will make a highmount easier. If you wanted to really go 26 buy a single manifold and throw a t67 on it would be a wicked combo I recon. Iv been talking to drift mob a bit lately and they just use a 25 with a plenum on top of the bottom runners forward facing then stock manifold with a 90 to make the turbo top mount. They are making 300 to 330 kw its cheap and effective something to think about

wow, awesome price! perfect size =)

well i was considering using the bottom runners, like using a plazman manifold, but there like 1k, seems over priced considering its half a manifold lol, ile end up having too bite the bullet and do it, i do have a 5k budget too play with on the engine alone, so its no drama, just means more late nights for me haha

25 sump does fit the 26 block but a notch has to be made for the pickup I did it last week

You're the 2nd person to say that recently

But I recall playing with on and wasn't even close?????

Maybe slight differences is some of the rear drive sumps

Or the guy had the wrong sump lol
