Guy I have been told that toluene can destroy the tips of these NGK BKR6EIX iridium plugs.

I have a R33 GTS-T 96 Series II.

Mods -

Custom 3" Split Dump and Front pipe (all one piece)

Custom Exhaust, 3.5" after the cat, 4 " Through the cannon

FMIC - 600 x 300 x 76

K&N Pod Filter, Plated off from the engine

AVC-R Running stock boost off, 10 PSI on..

ok... The car has flat spots everywhere

I run toluene, and the car is improved. I changed the plugs but some guys told me that the toluene would destroy these iridium plug's tips.

Can anyone verify this? Their product code is BKR6EIX.

Also, any idea on the flat spots? It actually seems quicker on low boost than high boost.

Its moderately average on power until I hit 5,500rpms..

I have spoken to the mechanic I see and he see he'll advance the timing and that will make a big difference to it.

Anyone have any ideas...maybe a fuel pump or something?

yep all boosters will destroy plugs, i used c16 in my ar and plugs got destroyed after only 2 days driving. and in regards to the boost, make sure your injectors arnt going all out at high noost might lean out the engine and blow something.

I use to run a 20-25% mix when at the track, and as soon as i ran a tank or two of toluene my car did pop and fart a little more often on gear changes, trailing throttle etc.

If you are going to run toluene then just run copper plugs, as i have expereinced there is some truth to the toluene / iridium plug thing. I wouldnt go panicking though, wait till you get 15,000-20,000kms out of them then just replace them with coppers.

Running toluene every tank also get pretty expensive, and it is illegal to use, though id like to know how they are going to catch you. If you need it to stop detonation, it may be worthwhile looking at a proper fix.

As for the flat spots, an R33 owner will know better then me, but the fuel cut/boost cut, variable cam timing can all start to hurt power when you start improving engine breathing and power, normally a re-tune is the only thing for it (Although some year model ECUs seem more flexible)

I didnt think Toluene hurt plugs at all, so long as you dont use more than 20%. Toluene hurts the rubber in the fuel systems more than anything. But its MUCH safer to use than any octane booster. Petrol has toluene and alot of other benzene derivatives anyway..

Do you use it?

Geez.....the car goes awesome with a 5% mix of it... I drove without it and hated it because my car was slow again..

Its awesome stuff

Yep I do. Well used to anyway. Got a 20L drum for $45. It was excellent stuff, and used a 10% ratio. Now since mobil has shut down their plant in adelaide, its much harder to get. Motrex said they couldnt get it anymore... But I think BP still can get it.

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
