Hi All

I am considering upgrades to my 32's suspension, it currently has Tein super streets in it however they are old and flogged out. The coilovers I was looking to go to were the tein monoflex's (http://www.rhdjapan.com/tein-mono-flex-coilover-r32-r33-r34-gt-r-z32-52664), however I am considering stretching it and getting the super racing coilovers (http://www.rhdjapan.com/tein-super-racing-coilover-bnr32-51503) - however, a friend has recommended to me a much cheaper option in the BC Racing coilover (http://justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=19781&cat&page=1).

My question is, cost wise, are the teins a worthwile upgrade on the BC Racing coilovers? The car is more or less a dedicated track car and will see most of its use on the track, and I am looking for significant gains over my super streets. Are the "Super Racing" coilovers a significant upgrade over the monoflex's (by the time you include the price of the springs, the super racing's are much more expensive)? Are both a better option to the BC Racing coilovers?

Also very interested in any feedback/info on the BC's. The model Ian is referring to the ER series not the BR's

Is anyone currently running these in a BNR32?

I got a set of the BC ER's (external reservoir) made up for my R32 GTR that see's the track regularly. The standard rates they come with are 12kg front and 10kg rear which I think is way too hard. After liaising with Just Jap, i got the factory to produce a set with 8kg front and 6kg rear. They also revalved them for these spring rates and extended the lengths to ensure they would run at the heights i wanted.

I couldnt be happier with them. On the road i have compression and rebound set to full soft and on the track i have found that about the midpoint on both compression and rebound gives me the best feel. Coupled with the whiteline swaybars front and rear, the car is very neutral now whereas it used to be very understeer dominant. Ive cut my times down at lakeside substantially with these coilovers (and with the swaybars).

I couldnt be more happy with the service from Darron at Just Jap either. I was really impressed with the running around he did for me and the quick response time. I fully recommend these to anyone who are after a good track coilover without compromising too much on the street.

Nismoid: I have read both of these threads, however neither of them specifically answer my question. The first one is some hero who wants to do high speed street racing and the second is again street and ride quality orientated, whereas I am purely interested in lap times. Both threads seem to talk about the BR's from what I can tell and my inquiry is about the ER's. Thank you however for pointing these threads out to me.

Zebra: BC's are a bit of a far-right entrant, I had the same impression when I saw them - cheap china special coilovers. However, they have scored some good reviews so I thought I would do some more research. My budget is 3.5k and id prefer to spend under that if possible, so if these could get reasonable performance at less of a cost then it was worth considering, as this would leave some money in reserve for other components such as a bushs and some LCA's for the rear.

slowmedown: Thanks, I have read through that thread as well. Some good discussion but still no hard facts in there as to their performance on the track apart from some vague reviews saying they were "good", more focused again on the street. I have a set-up similar to yours (whiteline adj. swaybars, cusco upper arms, JJR castor rods, tein super streets, 430 hp) and I was interested in comparing track times at lakeside.

Ultimately however I don't think anyone is going to be able to give me a definitive answer on these, it would seem I just have to try them and see, which may result in me going the 2k (on special atm) for the monoflex's instead as I know they are decent.

Tein Super Racing/RS seem to be far more widely used on serious circuit cars. Looking under a number of Japanese Time Attack cars like Cyber EVO etc and you will see the Teins. They can also be rebuilt locally and valved to whatever spring/application you are after. They squeeze in under your budget as well.

But if you have 3.5k to spend you are looking at some good quality gear. I woudl personally be looking at Koni or MCA. My next round of mods will be to get some Koni 3012 series or 28 series double adjustable shocks for my car.

In the end, I decided the super racing weren't sufficient enough an upgrade on the monoflex's to warrant spending the extra money. I have decided that the BC ER's are just too much the risk, cheap coilovers are cheap coilovers at the end of the day. I am going with the Monoflex's and will spend the remaining money elsewhere on control arms and bushs.

Ian are you doing the Time Attack series with Paul? I was at the last QR event but missed the last Lakeside day.

If you are looking at Tein have you looked at getting a used set of Ohlins for the same money or have you looked at Racing Logic? on their web site Racing Logic do custom coilovers as well with custom valving and spring rates for about $2500. Im not sure what the custom shock dyno graph is but I havent seen on from tein
