Well this is rather embarrassing. Up for sale is a complete (complete minus one bearing anyways...) R34 GTR V-Spec I which number 6 bearing has failed. Bottom end has been taken apart and confirmed, crank is still ok with a bit of scoring but bearing 6 completely destroyed due to oil starvation which we can't figure out why. Basically took the car out for a drive with full oil then 20 mins later the bearing collapsed. Took it back home and checked the oil - 2L missing and when I say missing, no signs of it under the car, in the engine bay, in the catch can, in the coolant, intercooler, ANYWHERE!!

Unfortunately, I do not have the patience with this car anymore and going to sell it as is. Don't bother low balling either because I know how much it is going to cost to fix (without taking short cuts) and it will still be cheaper than another standard 34 in good working condition.

No I will not separate parts as I don't have the time nor space.

For those who are interested, it basically needs a new set of big end bearings and whatever else you want to do and it is good to go. I recommend adding an extended sump which would have saved me the heart ache.

Price: $35,000 ono

Obviously the car is no longer running so you will have to tow it from my house to where ever.

any chance you had just done an oil change?

I did a spun bearing in my 34 and the crank looked perfect just a bit of scuffing on the big end, had it checked and it was 30tho bent and cracked, has the crank been checked for this ?

Yeah I did just do an oil change. No oil in it now though. Just putting the engine back together as is and putting the car in the garage. Plan is: if I don't sell it the way it is by the time I build up enough motivation, I will fix it up and back on the road she goes.

Rods, pistons and crank were checked and measured and found good but no paper work as it was done in house as a favour with me present to make sure there was no mistakes. Crank is also brand new so still a bit sturdy.

for 35 grand it seems like a steal seeing as you were looking for, 68 was it?

think you could get a few RBs for 30 grand haha. goodluck mate, surely someone will be keen to put some effort in

oil filter relocator is the reason it went and your 2ltrs oil is in the oil cooler, same thing happened to mine, did oil change drove for one day then to EC for track day.

car got to temp and thermostat in oil system opened and let all the pressure go to the oil cooler and let a air pocket from the cooler into the engine and bang lost engine.

$35,000k for this car is a real bargan, worst case $1500 for a new crank, $1000 for rods $150 for bearing and $350 for a head gasket + labour, so for under $40,000 you have an awsome car. GLWS

Hmmmm I never thought of that.. damn it..

Quick update guys, alot of interest but the most common question being asked is if the car can be driven onto a trailer.

NOW it can be as I have replaced all 6 bearings with acl ones so the car can be turned on and idle and go for short trips such as up onto a trailer. I would not drive it for any longer and risk doing more damage.

highly doubt it, but worth a try...

swap for 32 gtr, incl everything i have in the garage for it.(has mods, pm if even remotely interested)

and an ep82 starlet gt- stock mechanically, lowered and clear coat has peeled off roof.

both cars with 12 months rego.

unfortunately, cant offer any extra cash your way, or i would.

either way, glws.

cheers, luke.

All good mate, I would've kicked myself if I didn't at least give it a shot.

If i had the cash, id be banging on your door.

Good luck with the sale.

Hopefully you get better luck with your next car.

congrates on sale, lasted longer then I would have thought

SiR_RB, it's more when there is a oil the filter relocator as well as cooler, but basicly when thermostat opens it creates a pressure drop in the engine as the oil is diverted from engine to cooler, which is normally ok but when you couple that with a air pocket, from just changed oil and filter, and full throttle and bingo lost bearing.

    • It only looks tidy, as most of the stuff that was on the whole back wall, is now in the trailer to go to the tip, or has been shoved in my 2.2x2.4m "Spare parts room", and now I can't get to anything in there Ha ha ha I could definitely do with a bit more space, but I'd just end up with your problems I'm going to enclose the car port beside the garage, and move a lot of stuff into it I think. OR... It will be setup as a fabrication area, and the main garage will have parts storage in it. I'm not sure yet... Need some pictures of that big shed you've got with the bikes and Skyline in
    • No. I think it's gone. 😭 I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.
    • Can't say I've had a bad experience with one on my car, then again it only gets washed once or twice a year... The wheels on the other hand, get a good spray often due to my shitty dusty pads.
    • @MBS206 thats pretty neat and tidy to me!  I'll get a photo of mine when I'm out there next. It might require multiple photos to understand the scale of the atrocities though... In total I have 4 sheds of varying sizes and layouts. Main shed is 14x8, second shed is 3x8, third shed is 11x2.5, fourth shed is around 6x4.  All are pretty much full.   The main goal of my cleaning tsunami is to make the main shed predominantly car and motorbikes only. Second shed is my metal fab room (2 x bench grinders, drill press, bench belt sander, metal band saw, scrap metal storage and some of my garden tools.  3rd shed is more bigger garden stuff, storage for engine crane, jack stands, concrete grinder, concrete mixer, air compressor lives there, and it now has two 2mx2m pallet racking shelves with itemised boxes holding building stuff, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, etc, etc.  The 4th shed is Ryobi electric ride on mower, mini boom sprayer, ancient Kubota tractor, more garden stuff!  I have got a lot of shit....  Then there's the pool house (8mx4m) and the pool pump shed (4mx4m).  I built all of the sheds over the 11 years we've been here.  The main shed was a Ranbuild kit, the rest are all custom made to fit the areas available. Building the main shed taught me a LOT as I had no idea about building anything prior to that!  I've still got one more in me. It will be my man cave which I poured the extra concrete for way back when I poured the concrete for the main shed. The idea is the Skyline will be a centre piece of the main cave once (if...) it's finished.  I told my now 14 year old son yesterday that I will 100% drive him to his year 10 formal in 2 years. Still a long way off but at least I now have a date to work towards! 🤣
    • Modern oils are amazing. Add tyres to that as well.
