Rb26 Oil Pump, Standard Vs N1

Recommended Posts

Is there any way to tell if I have a standard or N1 RB26 oil pump fitted to my car, without removing it and checking the gear size or number of screws in the backing plate??

Can you tell visually when the pump is installed, or maybe by oil pressure at idle??

Thanks

An N1 pump may have a "24U" instead of "05U" marking on the casing (not sure), otherwise they are externally the same.

In any case, lots of things can be done with better gears in a standard casing, so if your question is about whether you have a better than standard pump or not - no, there is no way to tell.

And since it is engine out (realistically) to change the oil pump, you may as well not worry about it....

can tell by the outer rotor diametre and the tooth profile. N1 pumps have a wave profile versus the standard profile of the standard pump

Yes the standard pump has a larger outer diameter (81 vesus 77mm) and more teeth. But you cannot see that unless you pull the pump off the motor & the backing plate off the pump.
