Hi guys,

I think I'm having problem with my engine. Whenever I step on the accelerator I can hear some clicking sound from the engine. Its like something is being hit inside whenever I step on it even if its in neutral. Before it wasn't really that loud, but now I think its getting worst.

Anyone had the same experience before? Just wanna know first what could be the problem before I bring it to the shop. Also, if anyone can point me to the right direction where to take it somewhere western melbourne. Please help me out on this one. Thanks.

Cheers,

Rey

Sounds like the bottom end, perhaps time for a new engine? If you drop down I could have a listen for you but I'm in Hampton Park... :)

Let me know if you need an engine, I may have one here and can probably swap it over for you if you're interested.

Had a similar thing with my wife's car, would tick damn loud when accelerating.

First thing I did was an engine flush and put some GOOD oil in it along with a filter of course.

I'd personally grab some Motul 300V 10w40 and put it in after flushing the previous oil. Might cost you $140 in oil + filter.

Best case = engine back to running well

Worst case = no change (but at least you ruled out poor oil)

LOL

"you need a new engine" "i happend to have one"

It could be Lifters/Tappers

When it comes time you need a hand I will be sure to remember. looool.

If you describe the noise as something being hit inside the engine it sounds more like bottom end to me, especially as you said "Whenever I step on the accelerator."

I bought the engine for $100 so I'm sure its the cheapest option by a long shot (regardless of the fault as the buckets in these are a pain to do.) but perhaps its best to take it to a mechanic that's never worked on a VQ before...

  • 2 weeks later...

I took it to the mechanic just last week, and got the same advise as what iamhe77 said to get it serviced. Flush out the engine oil and observe for a couple of weeks. They said if that's the problem it shouldn't go away right after the service has done, it might stay for a bit longer. But if it's getting worst after a month I'll bring it back to them and they might check the the "variable cam angle" like what deep dish v35 is saying. I don't know those things but it sounds expensive. I hope it gets well. I'll keep y'all posted on what's going on. Thanks.
