Hey all,

Went along to the Top Secret Imports Info & Tech night few weeks back as a friend of mine was hoping to learn a bit more about the bits and bobs of our world - (info and pics here http://forum.jdmstyl...orts-14-04-2012)

They were doing various giveaways for the attendees and we ended up scoring a free window tint session with Dave @ Customworx

I had initially put off getting my car tinted as i didn't want any of the hassles that came with it ie. bubbles, creases, scratching from the window roller etc... , but after a long and im sure annoying phone call with Dave i felt somewhat at ease to bring it over to have the work done

We ended up deciding to go with a 20% darkness all round which i hoped would be a blend of privacy and visibility.

Here are the before and after results;

To say the least i was very impressed with the turn out - Dave had put in between 3-4 hours getting it perfect for me at the same time answering all kinds of ridiculous questions and wives tales about tinting

Furthermore, my rear windshield demister and radio aerial are still fully functional which is a testament to Dave's experience with Jap cars

It was also comforting to know that Dave has been in the business for going on 20 years and is behind all the tinting that goes on in the Top Secret Imports dealership in Blacktown, NSW

Not enough small businesses who are putting out top quality work are being recognized these days and i cannot recommend Dave enough with his talent and perfectionist attitude he puts into his work.

Although he's based in Western Sydney, demand for his work has taken him all over the eastern seaboard doing work for different types of cars

So if you've been putting off that Tint or Wrap on your car be sure to suss him out - he's mobile and works through nights and most weekends which makes it easy for those who work mon-fri 9-5

Just so you all know i'm not affiliated with Dave in anyway, i was just impressed with his workmanship and thought to give him a shoutout for taking good care of my car

Feedback is appreciated Dan :)

The results are stunning and yet don't quite reflect the experience of the expert 'er contortionist.

I presume your were informed of what to clean the windows with and what not to use?

Hope you enjoyed the remainder of the SAU/TSI Tech Night too!

Cheers Terry, btw was also good to meet you at the meet and check out your N1 as well as your son's Nur

actually yeh Dave did say the best way to keep the tint at its best was to just use a damp cloth (just water no glass cleaner) and dry with a mircofibre - using any chemicals on the tint film actually accelerates the breaking down of it because it's pourous (it breathes)

cheers again

  • 5 weeks later...

demister is in good working order, Dave was aware that it can be a problem sometimes but he managed to work around it. he charges around the $200 mark but i must say he does know his stuff when it comes to using the best materials for the job, not to mention he took a good 3-4 hours to make sure it was to his standards

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.

    • Welcome Gabriel. At least your car has a glorious RB and not the shitty CA18. As MBS206 mentioned all the good bits can be added later. Two doors or four?
    • And half of them have been converted to turbos.
