Hey guys,

I just had look through a few threads I found using the search button, but sifting through couldn't find what I was after.

Looking at purchasing a Blitz Spec-R exhaust system for a '93 R32 GTR. Then I had a think about getting one made. For the same price (~1k) would it be possible to get a decent system fabricated? Is it a better option over the Blitz shelf system? What are your experiences with using shelf vs custom systems?

Any thoughts views advice welcome,

Thanks!

Generally you can get them quieter going custom as well, which is a concern for a few people hence going that route.

Also Jap off-shelf systems often have internal reducers/restrictors. So they say they are "90mm", but half way there is a shitty step down to 2.5-2.75" to try and help with noise reduction. Something to be mindful of.

Custom is way better in my opinion. For me it's the clearance. When you have an exhaust custom made for you, they can make it sit off the ground as much as possible. I don't have any problems with my exhaust scraping, and my car is very low. Sometimes the flange or the heatshield on the cat scrapes a little bit, but if I went with a custom dump/front pipe then I could sort that out as well.

im in the process of making my custom 90mm exhaust for my r32 gtr, no step downs anywhere ! even the mufflers are 90mm right through...

as above, the jap ones usualy start off at 70 or 75mm inside diameter at the cat flange, then open up to 90mm before shrinking again to somtimes 65mm in the rear muffler....not good for power at all :/

I'm in the process of custom right now with my GTR, and 'top of the line' bolt on with my BMW. So far I'm happier with the custom system on my GTR. A couple other pluses with custom:

-better fitment (at least it should be with a decent fabricator)

-v-band flanges

-extra features such as 02 bungs
