My experience is, if a cop sees you in a Skyline (mine is a dead stock looking R32 GTR) then you are going to be pulled over for a random "Licence check". Last time I got pulled over I was at a red light, cop comes around the corner and lines up behind me, as soon as the light turns green the sirens are on.

Although, having said that, I have never got a ticket or anything. Just be polite and answer their questions and all is sweet.

I was pulled over the DAY i got my line.... driving it home from melbourne....

The cops brother had one and he spent the whole time saying how much he liked skylines etc. After about 15 mins of chatting i had to remind him that i had been pulled over for something.... turns out it was a random breath test, so we did that and off i went.

That is the one and only time iver been pulled over. Since then nothing. Im with Erin i think it has to do with how, where and with who you drive.

Cheers

I get pulled over AT LEAST ONCE per WEEK! without fail.it has got to the stage where i am recording it everytime,Only offences i have ever had have been 2 tickets!for 15 and 20kms over,Couple more times and i'll be up to the cop shop to see what the F*&$# is going on@!

And i am 19 with a 32 gtst.....

Hi People,

Well I have the Skyline bug, just wen't for another drive in one and I am hooked. I want one no matter what attention it gives me. The fact is, they are a bloody awesome car.

The next step for me is to find the perfect modded R33 for under 25K. Know of any decent ones, please let me know!

Thanks for all the comments too, you people are quite funny (and informative). Hopefully I'll be driving with you guys soon.

Cheers!

Yeah, I have been thinkin' of doing that, but the bank will not give me the $$$ to spend where and how I want, instead they wite a cheque out to the seller. So I am really kinda stuck buying a modded car, especially because I dont have the cash to get the mods done with my own funds.

A car thats lowered, decent wheels, boost control, bov, pod and exhaust would be a good starting point :) I can take over from there...

The search continues...

In all my driving of every vehicle I've been in (including the skyline) I've only ever been pulled up ONCE and that was in our shiny and noisy V8 kingswood cause there were 3 of us in it puttering around all suss like at capalaba at 3am.

I think some of you need paranoia treatment.

The only time I've been truly hassled by the cops was when there was another R33 that looked nearly identical to mine, but the guy drove like a friggen maniac. I'd be driving along minding my own business, a cop would pull me over, walk over to my window (with that 'you're screwed' swagger), but as soon as he saw that I wasn't the other guy, he'd apologise and let me go. The other bloke must have moved or been locked up or something after a couple of months, and I haven't seen it around since (yay!)! Funny thing is that I have virtually no trouble now that my car looks less stock, with the exception of one time that I really deserved it, because they don't get me confused with the psychotically-driven stockers any more.

Moral of the story: yes you will get attention, but how bad that attention is all depends on you.

I'm seriosuly looking to buy a r33gtst, but now feel I may be making the wrong decision...

Reading through the posts on here, it seems you guys have a bad time with the cops issuing defects and just hassling you in general.

Cheers, P

My previous experience with cars is that you tend to get harrased more so IF you lower the car & slap big body kits on it. Not to mention if the cops hear the atmo bov.

All it takes is bad timing of a heavy right foot and they will pull you over.

Compare a stocker looking car to a lowered, bodykitted & atmo bov car, both have just been done for a heavy right foot.

The modded *looking* car will have a much higher chance of getting defected.

Years ago I ran a VX 6 speed GenII that was lowered big wheels and loud exhaust. Mine simply had a hidden bar and plate fmic exhaust and boost.

I flew past the cops that were hiding in a side street first as I was in front by around 1 car length. The VX pulled up behind me at the round about where the cops flew up beside me looked at the car then dropped back and pulled over the VX.

So it definately pays to have a stockish clean looking car with nice wheels.

Personally I think body kits etc tend to ruin the nice stocker body shape the Skylines have.

Still you can't beat a stockish height R32 or R33 with 265's hanging out the rear.. Lower the car too much and it hides the tyres. :)

Joel, I agree its a tough decision to modify the looks of a Skyline. They are such a tough understated looking vehicle. Although the modification bug and desire to be individual usually wins. I'm trying to design a unique body kit for my R32 GTR, taking queues from about 5 kits and some of my own ideas. Currently at the sketch book stage and learning how to work with composite materials from a guru.

with pods there not illegal, phattmirage rang up before he gone one and asked qld transport. and i also believe with the bov's venting to atmos they defect most people cause of noise (loud ones) and polution. i put one on my mr2 no trouble with cops with the bov, driving next to them psssht like 3psi not 15psi lol and they didnt care. and im neally 19 with a sports car turboed. cops never hasselled me in me lancer either loud bloody exhaust. be nice and stuff and all is good even had one cop say nice car in the mr2 :P but u will get shitty cops more down the coast where boogans are.

I have since found out that what QLD transport laws and police laws are totally different, quoting from Senior Sergent Ken Shults (Beenleigh Branch, yes I went in person and had a lovely chat with him) Anyway basically the law that the police uphold states that "Anything that does not come as stock from the manufacturer, or as a factory option, can be deemed a defect" Basically how badly you get defected is up to the cop.

Sucks but tis true. Usually cops will let things like pods and zausts go, if the pods are secured, zausts if they are not too loud, and other things, basically was told it all depends on the officer doing the checking and his knowledge of looking for non-stock items, pods and zausts are just easy to tell non-stock item.
