Ok so on the topic of injectors, I just called a local ID dealer and they said that on E85 they would in fact recommend the sards because they have had issues with E85 eating away at the ID's. Anyone heard of this? Also what kind of dollars should I be paying for ID's and where should I get them from?

who the hell was that? sounds like crazy talk... no, that's my brother 'crazy talk'

if that were true, a lot of people all over the world would be in the shit.

I got my ID's from T1 racing. You can get the base Bosch model, but i generally recommend people to get the real thing. They're not much, but a little bit more expensive now because the Europeans can't get their shit together

If you go the Link, you need the expansion loom thingy, it's got the digital input.

Sensors were $350'ish from memory - don't need the content readout. The loom cable Trent thought was very similar to a AC Delco (?) product, i never chased up on that, but you could possibly skip on that for a cheaper option.

I saw some second hand sensors going for like $50 USD, so you could def do it on the cheap. Don't think any has really tested the reliability of these items as they age. Prob best to call Holden and ask them are the content sensors listed as a 'consumable'. If you go a second hand one, you'd be wise to invest in a E% readout, all display it somehow.

Depending on the tuner, and how many setups they've done, you'll probably find that they can get away with 3 or so maps, but as Paul said they're not 'start from the beginning' maps anyway.

We're going to play around a bit with how the content sensor is all plumbed up, will report back with any findings.

Link $1650

MAP sensor $200 (if needed)

Sensor, loom and display $650 ish

Few fittings and lines for the sensor... $70 or so?

TOTAL before tube is

$2,570

Install plus tune = up to your tuner.

So anywhere upto $4,000 I'd say.

$4000 is a shit load of 98 fuel, I don't think its worth it unless you really want the extra power E85 gives.

Sorry anyone in Australia that would have them in stock?

The car isn't a daily, so I might just throw a haltech in and tune it on e85 and then when ive got more cash and if I can be bothered add the sensor and do the whole flex fuel setup.

hmmm E85 and a second boot mounted fuel tank is a hell of alot cheaper than flex fuel setup me thinks...

Hell I dont use the back seat anymore with two fixed back seats anyways, theres space for an enlarged fuel tank right there....

wow thats annoying... you definitely need another map sensor as well with the link... sucky

Yeh it's quite annoying. I honestly think Link would be smarter to include a 3 bar sensor or ideally a 4 bar sensor on all their boards, as the Haltech external sensors are a fair bit cheaper than the options that Link offer. I can understand that they are trying to keep the cost of the board down and then make the extra profit by selling external sensors, but in reality they are probably losing a lot of money to Haltech and other even cheaper brands.

i didn't get a Link map sensor, i just got my stuff from tuffcarparts, they made the adpaters for the ID1000's for my different mm sized fuel rail. MAP sensor was pretty cheap from memory, $50? i don't remember it being of any consequence really.

EDIT: just checked email, $110... prob could find it under $100 as this was a while back, dollar is better now.

How much are the Haltech map sensors?

Dont leave the car sitting for too long with E85 in the tank though (i mean like months at a time) as a mate doing FIFO work has issues with it everytime he lets his car sit for too long, put fresh fuel in and its like new..... Not sure if others have this problem or not?

About the same, I paid $100 for the 3 bar Haltech sensor. The 3 bar map sensor that Link offer is $140 going off Speedtech's prices.

Sounds like it's taking on water.

Daniel, I found the sensors on ebay for around $300 delivered, I'm fairly sure you can buy the readout and use its 5v output for fuel temp and more importantly, 5v output for ethanol percentage as a signal to most ecu's with a 0-5v input spare, am I correct?

1650 link g4 rrp

650 sensor and display

1000 tuning

if r34 add map sensor 170rrp

done.

knock off $300 or so for the readout as well... even cheaper :)

scotty, i don't believe the E% can be sent as a 0-5v signal... from what know (which admittedly is not much) the signal needs to be sent as a digital frequency

if you're talking about the E% readout screen... yes, that does some sort of conversion i do vaguely remember thinking about using the output from that to the ECU... but can't quite remember. I guess what you need to do is make or get something that changes the frequency to 0-5v on the cheap, just skip all the screen bit, and just do the conversion.

What is a digital frequency lol?

You could get a 0-5v readout definitely, if the sensor is digital then it will need a special interface to work with anything, if it is just designed to work with the display then this is probably the case, but if it is designed to be input to an ECU it should be analog.

gm flex fuel sensor outputs a square-wave voltage signal. The signal varies in both frequency (50-150hz) and pulse width for fuel temp. Either pull the sensor's signal up to 5v to the ecu's digital input, or connect it to a zeitronix content display which has two analog 0-5v outputs one for fuel temp one for e content.

    • No worries at all 🫡 I think the most satisfying things to make are the little bits that are just impossible to find or they're no longer manufactured. Generally I always try to replace parts with OEM wherever possible. This little project is also great because it'll never see the light of day, but strengthen these brackets so it's not just relying on the little standard screws in the headlight plastic. As soon as I saw the standard brackets and screws I thought, "well I'm not going to install with just the screws, the plastic tabs will just snap off". It's crazy how expensive everything has become yeah. But I suppose that's supply and demand; granted it's a lot easier to get brand new genuine parts these days which is fantastic 😊, I don't have to get totally reamed at the local Nissan dealer ha ha We sure are lucky we have all these manufacturers making parts these days, a few really great Australian companies too like Platinum Racing Products and Fit Mint Automotive, what a time to be alive ❤️ . I've got my eye on the RB26 head by PRP as mine has a very fine hairline crack, so that'll need to be addressed some time in the future. If you have any requests or odd things to make feel free to let me know and I can have a crack at making replacement parts ✌️
    • Thanks for sharing this, and BTW if your headlights are in good condition they are worth thousands....you might want to consider replacing them with brand new LED ones like this (https://www.nengun.com/78works/full-led-headlights-r32-skyline) and making enough profit to buy a house in Sydney
    • I'm not sure what sort of shops are nearby, but I'd expect any reasonable exhaust shop could put a cat in it that will not restrict the power that engine makes. Otherwise, if you want to remove it, short lengths that replace the cat are readily available online, search for "de-cat pipes" or "test pipes"
    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all! • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.
