Hey guys just trying to see how many of u run external gate setups in ur daily drivers or regular use skylines.

Please say:

• what gate u running,

•if its plumbed back/screamer

•if u been defected.

Reason being im trying to decide if I should stay internal or run the risk of going ext gate on my daily R34 and risk defects, since I want to go screamer- actually I hate screamers but saw a coupla instances on the Kando thread that plumb backs reduced power considerably, hence no advantage of going external other than better boost control.

I hope you get a screamer, get defected and have your car crushed so then we all can get a break from your bullshit threads and dreamer comments...

Screamer

Melbourne, VIC, daily driver

have put "heatshield" over it

Yes it is great for boost control, mine is a straight line on the boost plot and it definetly helps with flow.

Downside is - and this is a downside - for daily driving you have to be careful when you put ur foot down. When I overtake etc, I dont really go above 3-3.5k, dont want to look like a muppet.

I believe part of the reason I havent had issues is my car looks relatively stock and I drive pretty reserved.

If you think you will just keep gating and you know u cant control yourself you are just going to end up with headaches of removing it and fines.

If I am completely honest, if I could be bothered I would pay for a custom setup where I can plumb it back in/ make it external relatively easily instead of always external.

38 tial v band, plumbed back, certified, doesn't seem to be restricing power? screamer will attract unwanted attention and will fume the car out like the biggest purposely made exhaust leak, they're not illegal just for the noise

Depends how many times you drive around atm and get pulled over.

If you dont get pulled over where you are and dont go around on gate where there are cops then you should be fine. Just make sure you keep the piping somewhere hidden a bit and not to easy to see.

Also make sure the screamer doesn't point straight at your steering rack. Those boots don't like screamers...

To be honest, I think if you need to think about whether you want a screamer or not, then you don't want one. You can't be in two minds about it, gotta be prepared to take the consequences if you get pulled over. If just the thought of getting defected puts you off then don't do it. You're not going to lose a lot of power by having the gate plumbed back in anyway.

Seriously Ron. You got commitment issues man.

Too many variables like the suburb, town, state you live in just for a start.

End of the day it's illegal, it's only your decision if you want to run the risk or not.

True, thats why Im having two minds about it, place is Sydney metro, so high risk area it is..

is it possible for it to have its own cat? or is that practical/possible?

It's really not practical. You would have to be driving around constantly on boost with the gate open for the cat to be at operating temperature.

Illegal also because they release toxic fumes into the environment as they finish before the cat. As for noise I dont really know why bikes are getting away on the streets roarling more than three times as loud as our cars..:/

Haha, Harley's have got nothin on a screamer...

Why dont u have the best of both worlds, flexible screamer pipe that can be bolted on and off when u feel like it, i just bought one for my build, not yet installed but i thought it was a good idea

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/35mm-38mm-Wastegate-Flex-Braided-Stainless-Dump-Pipe-Kit-w-MIld-Steel-weld-Bung-/261026731797?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc667d715#ht_3166wt_1396

I would never use one. So that question is irrelevant.

Think about it logically - its a flexi pipe that looks to be no more than 15cm. So you disconnect it from the bottom (because, you wouldn't disconnect from the gate end, that's just dumb)...

Then once you do disconnect it, all you have this loose piece of flexi piping swinging in the wind to vent "externally". You'd need to fab up some sort of mounting point and so on.

It is nothing that a welded sleeve/plumb back pipe cannot do;

1. Reliably

2. Cheaper

3. Easier
