Lolz....this cracks me up.

Fyi.....the fastest group a r32's in the world use.....wait for it.....a panel filter in an airbox!

Sucking hot air from the engine bay is for noobs!

Yeah, yeah; what would you know about fast R32's anyway... :whistling:

Never got the whole pod filter thing...

Remind me, is that beautiful shiny airbox you refer to a stock R32 item?

lol, my point is that they don't use the standard "retail/consumer" R32 airbox because it would be too restrictive and instead designed that lovely air box which uses two panel filters if my very hazy memory serves me correctly.

In the end, more air + more fuel = more powah, so why the hate on a proper pod set up?

if it sucks from the engine bay it's shit!!!!! end of story....no contest..........sounds good and goes shit!

Not saying that all setups are bad......of cause a well set up CAI will work but if you go to all that hassle why not do it properly? Surface area will always win so why go with a POD???? You don't see POD's on GT500, GT1, GT3, V8SC........I wonder why that is?

BTW.....Dad's old road/race going R32GTR was a little of 600hp at the wheels.....standard airbox!....ran 11.1's all day hot or cold! The guy's with POD's were all inconsistent!

Agree 100%

POD designs generally have a larger surface area than a panel filter, that said it also comes down to the efficiency of the filter medium.

Definitely nothing against an airbox, nor a properly set up pod.

I don't know where you got that info Cam, which pods do you think magically have a larger surface area? I'm happy to prove you wrong, just bring a pod to me before tomorrow night and we can test it on the dyno while its being tuned.

His talking about the circumference of it vs the flat dimensions.

With your bonnet open and the fan on you "might" make more HP..."might"! Bonnet closed and no fan

If you take the filter apart and straighten out the filter medium in both the pod design and the panel design, you'll find that generally the pod will have a larger amount of filter medium, thus larger surface area.

I'd be interested to test out a decent pod on your car actually, but you'd have to extend the intake piping to either in front of the radiator or down to the area in front of the passenger front wheel. As it is, I do actually have such a pod sitting in my garage....

there is a pretty easy solution to this. Why don't we hook up my laptop, and just read the intake temps on two different cars- one with Pod, one with Airbox.

Just need some test subjects in sydney!

I'm sure Craig won't mind being the stock airbox car.

Who got a pod?

(would use my car, by the AFM isn't in the stock position, so it won't be an accurate reflection really)

Lol. Back in your box. :)

I compared a stock paper panel and a pod just before, the paper one looks like it would have twice the surface area. Does anyone have an old pod they can cut up in the name of science? I will measure the panel filter.

How about they just measure a couple of diameters or circumferences, Im sure we can just do some maths :P

Look what you've started now cam!!!!

Anyone ever seen a pod shaped vacuum cleaner that's any good? Or are we all using the flat type.....might go and check with the wife to see what we have!

Pretty sure they all feed the same sized pipe (unless it has been changed) so we could dick schwing for ever and a day I reckon two parts of bugger all difference if there is a reasonable cold air feed to a pod or a panel filter.

Do it or don't do it. It doesn't matter much either way. Sure the quality of the pod/panel comes into it but I am assuming a reasonable quality pod/panel is used.

I changed mine for ease of packaging reasons with aftermarket turbos and so I could exercise my dodgy cold air box fabrication skills. I am under no illusions about whether there is power to be gained or lost at the power levels my cars are reaching.
