I put a pod on mine. Still need to redo the setup with the new pod and intake pipe, but I found an increased AFM voltage on the Informeter, which I interpreted as increased airflow compared to the Blitz panel in the stock box with the inspection cover removed. Intake temps were about the same, but I didn't check that as closely.

Considering the pod was old, and fitting was intended as an experiment to see if I could liberate enough room for a catch can, I think with a new pod (which I've got in the shed) and an intake setup to do it justice I'd be able to see noticeable gains.

I compared a stock paper panel and a pod just before, the paper one looks like it would have twice the surface area. Does anyone have an old pod they can cut up in the name of science? I will measure the panel filter.

I will humour you and give you some maths to work out.

I just measured the R2C pod that will be going on the Nismo intake I have for my Stagea (when I finally get it lol).

Okay the closed end diameter of the filter medium is 130mm. Open end diameter is 150mm. The length of the filter medium between the two ends is 140mm. There are 44 folds in the filter medium each of which are 13mm deep.

:geek: right then so to find lateral surface area (S) we need to use S = Pi(r+R)s

Closed end radius ( r ) = 65mm

Outlet end radius ( R ) = 75mm

Slant height ( S ) = 140mm

S = 3.1416 (140) 140

S = 61575 (rounded).

This is for a solid surface and obviously doesn't take into account the folds.

I presume your panel filter will be width x height? I don't have a panel filter lying around so I'll go off the K&N specs on their site which may or may not include the frame of the filter. http://www.knfilters...?Prod=33-2031-2

279mm x 167mm = 46593 not including folds.

So if both were solid, the R2C pod has almost 1.5x the surface area of the oem panel filter.

Feel free to work out the element size if you include the folds :)

The panel filter I have here has 84 folds at around 1 inch deep, multiply that by 2 (as I was only counting the tip of the fold and each one has two sides), it should come to 169 inches long approximately. That is a massive surface area.

lol, that would be the factory paper panel filter. So tell me again why you ditched it years ago for a K&N and more recently a Blitz?

Something about restricting flow?

I may have to test all this out on the dyno as I was under the impression taking the panel out and running without a filter would make very little power difference. Perhaps there is merit in testing a few options including the paper one...

So your putting a POD to suck up hot air or air from the front bar(look out for puddles and mud) of an N/A 3.5 standard motor that already has a standard airbox that is more than good!

I've had cars with Proper CAI, POD's, Panel filter setup's and Standard setup.

My Giocattolo had POD's when I got it.......pity they made a lot less HP on the dyno because they sounded great!.......Panel filter made more HP btw!.

BTW - I know of a standard PNM35 airbox for sale atm! or you can talk to him!

Since you are directing at me:

No, I don't want the standard airbox as I already have the intake sitting in my garage.

The reason I went for a pod is because R2C don't make panel filters. From what I have seen their filter medium is the most efficient, best filtering, re-usable, dry filter on the market (at least that I could find).

I'm actually laughing at you thinking a pod is better that a proper CIA system....or better that a standard airbox on a m35.
