Hey guys, finally got some pics of my car and thought i'd say hi to everyone! Its a 97 gtst completely stock!

In the process of filling out the form to get NSW membership :D

Anyone from the Hills area that could share their knowledge with me on the car would be great! :D

Just some quick questions are -

I want to change the engine oil and oil filter this weekend.

What oil would be decent for my car and doesn't destroy the budget? Are oil filters from repco any good?

What else should i look at getting changed / checked :D (gearbox oil dif oil etc)

Anyone selling an air con compressor? Since i got it re gassed it has been making loud hissing noises and the mechanic said that my compressor is on its last legs =(

So here is my car that i got fresh from japan :D ( If you even made it this far )

Nice car :-)

The search button is your friend.(check out the general maintenance section too).

But for starters, get your mechanic to do a complete fluid drop/replacement and replace the timing belt if there is no proof of previous change.

Hi mate,

Congrats on your purchase, car looks fantastic.

I use Royal Purple 10W-40. If you are on a budget, the Nulon 10W-40 fully synthetic will also do what you need. Can get it from Supercheap for approx $60 for 6 litres.

I use genuine Nissan oil filters, however the Ryco Z145A oil filter from super cheap will do fine.

i suggest you also do your fuel filter while you're at it. From memory you use a Ryco Z201 for this.

Dont quote me on the part numbers, its been over a year since I had my R33 GTS-T. Check the Ryco filter book while you're at Supercheap / Repco, but pretty certain they are the ones you need.

Cheers.

Just checked my records from my old GTS-T, they are the right part numbers above.

Come to think of it, also do the standard checks.

Check your brake / clutch fluid is filled to max. If not, I use Castrol Response Super DOT 4.

Check power steering fluid filled to max. If not, I use the generic Castrol Power Steering fluid in the black bottle that suits the DEX ATF standard.

Check air filter. If you need a replacement, use K&N, or if you are on a budget - Ryco A360 will do fine (from supercheap).

Check radiator fluid - I use Tectaloy Performance 100.

Obviously, DO NOT OVER FILL.

I'm also in the area, look forward to seeing you around.

Thanks for all the help mate!

Hopefully get most of that done this weekend. I got all 4 brake pads changed to QFM pads + got my rotors machined :D so i hope they would of checked my brake fluid.

Will look into all the other ones. Looking to get an exhaust anyone know any good cheap places to get one made / good boltons? I was tihnking Kakimoto Mega N1 but its a bit more than i wanna spend.

Got any feedback on the JJR ones? Full turbo back exhaust is only like $700 ! compared to about 1.2k for everything else lol.

Cheers

Colin

look in the forsale section on here dude, i bought a kakimoto catback and a custom made stainless dump/front pipe (turbo back) all up was... 740 including postage (40 bucks for catback, 0 for turbo back)

its an excellent exhaust btw, its very quiet from 0-4000rpm, after that its a pretty decent roar. quiet exhausts are very good for not getting defected. when you get rbt'd or pulled over by cops and the there engine is louder then your whole car they tend to not car about anything, i mean, i got HID head lights, had a very loud pod, black wheels on a silver car (the wheels face, not rim, pokes out guards) and i never have any issues :).

your car looks excellent mate! i bought mine stock 1 year and 1 month ago, youll love it!!

Welcome to SAU where our pockets only partially refill before they empty once again!

Do you have enough room to keep all your original boltons should you decide to return the car to stock one day?

:)

Will definately keep all my stock parts, but i was thinking down the track maybe 1-2 years... If i leave it as is... or spend another say 3-5k on it getting the basic mods like exhaust, front mount, boost controller, tune etc. The resale value would be exactly the same wouldn't it lol.

Maybe i'll just spend my money on getting good detailing gear and try keep the paint in the best condition :>

oh decisions!

youll find untouched clean cars sell for the most, tasteful mods never hurt like quiet exhausts or nice/clean wheels, but youll never see what you paid again hah.

get yourself a good bunch of cleaning gear, then if your a bit handy, give it a full detail (if needed), including clay bar, polish, and wax. you can do alot more steps but this will get you going.

if you think the paint is looking clean and what not just keep those waxes up to date.

I run 10 psi on the stock 34 intercooler, which is a bit better I think.

I've heard of this mod before and the guys in the thread said it's fine to do so, I mean, your just tricking the ecu a bit.

Where are you getting your 5 psi reading from?

Put on a turbo back exhaust and you'll be hitting boost HEAPS harder. And in my case, reduce turbo lag alot too.

    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4
    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
    • To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
