Manuel Kasko
Hey guys So currently on my way to Sydney and driving my girlfriend's 1989 toyota corolla seca (auto) and whenever the water temperature goes to the lowest point the overdrive turns off. This seems to happen constantly when driving on cold nights and going down hills. Tried pulling the car over and letting it heat up, but when we started driving the water temperature dropped back down again and overdrive stopped working. It only ever happens when the water temperature drops down below cold. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401396-kaskos-daily/ Share on other sites

Manuel Kasko
Thanks sin! I'll try those and see if there are any changes. Got any idea why it affects overdrive? Sinista32
If the thermostat is removed, or stuck open the engine temperature sensor will not allow the transmission to go into overdrive since it thinks the car is too cold Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401396-kaskos-daily/#findComment-6377806 Share on other sites
mad082
+1 for thermostat. will almost certainly be the cause. even on a cold night, driving on the highway the temp should stay in the centre of the gauge. put a new one in and it will run hotter (in this case that's a good thing) which will probably make it run better and get better fuel economy. Manuel Kasko
Okay thanks heaps guys! Makes sense because it uses a whole tank to get to Sydney on a cold night. (4500rpm) Then a hot day it uses half a tank. (2700rpm) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401396-kaskos-daily/#findComment-6377985 Share on other sites
