Yea its definitely still a problem, sometimes the wheel is perfectly still, yet the car feels like a puck on an air-board and just gliding along with my not having any say. Last night going along at only 70kmh the car definitely wanted to go right, I had to seriously turn left and then back to center to get it right :/

OK, so .... what steering wheel do you have on it? More importantly, is it HICAS compatible?

Have you tried to start a HICAS diagnostic? (google it).

Do you know anyone (mechanic) with a proper scan tool that can report on all the computers in the car? My mechanic has one that reports the computers in the car as being Engine, Trans and Steering (trans because R34 auto ECU has trans module in it - even though I'm using it manual) and my HICAS computer is still present but only partially connected (and completely disabled mechanically). That scan tool reports available fault codes for those computers. Worth a look. You can't always start a HICAS diagnostic to find out if your steering sensor isn't working (for example) because you need the steering sensor (and others) to be working in order to get a diagnostic running!! So scan tools can be a lifesaver.

cheers

Glad I found this topic because my car is becoming increasingly deadly on the road.

Going to be looking at delete or lock as soon as I get some cash.

Would you suggest a delete rather then just the lock bar?

or can a lock bar still bring it stable.

I jacked my car up and you can actually move my wheel because my hicas is so loose..

Don't know on R33s. I put a whole non-HICAS rear subframe from a Cefiro into my R32 and pulled out all the HICAS stuff completely (of which there is a lot more in an R32, being hydraulic).

It's also closer to being legal, as HICAS lock bars are considered a modification to the steering system, which is generally a no-no and an engineering exercise at best.

If I were not to have done the whole subframe, I definitely would have bought one of the more serious delete thingos that replaces the HICAS tie rods with arms with bushes on the end.

Standard GTR wheel from what I can tell. It is possible some sensor is broken or stuck, as for diagnostics I don't think they checked that thoroughly as the loose camber nut was found. But yea I might ask them to do that, I'm sure they have the tools.

These symptoms (or at least the one posted above this post) are usually caused by the steering angle sensor....and more particularly by not having a boss that drives the steering angle sensor.

I thought the same thing but the original steering wheel and boss were in place, I don't believe they had been tampered with, it was intermittent and there was no way to guess when it would happen, either way, all gone, all good.

OP, if you can, just get the system removed and a lock bar installed asap, at least the car will be safe to drive, I know how dangerous it feels, good luck!

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
