hey all,

last night the car i park 1 ft away from got broken into last night, was a kia so probably no blinky light saying ALARM IN HERE like mine (on ya blinky)

no damage was caused to the car but they got a 500 gig ipod, shes heaps mad, id be cheering if that was me, window costs alot more :P

so bit sus on leaving my car tonight, and theres no way around it, i gotta leave for work at 4am so cant stay up late on watch.

cars are parked under big fluros literally right under everyones bed and window. im thinking ill park my car under a tree, its darker but its in sight of our window so they may be sus on striking it.

anyone got any advice?? my excess is 3000 bucks not including the extra from my age being 21. so ill be paying for a new window or door damage myself if the worst happens. :(

so happy the guy/s didnt touch my car. it could have been my car that drew them in as i pull in off a busy road? (if the person is on the forums (doubt it, but never know) thanks for the respect of my car to not touch it)

Quick release steering wheel

Good loud alarm with 4point immobiliser.

GPS traker.

Alarm sent to your phone

Disable car from mobile capability

Kill switch

Remove a wheel

Wheel Brace on wheel

Park in locked garage home + work

Park where you can see it

Dont leave attractive items in view

Insurance

Sniper rifle and scope

lol love the last one.

got pretty much all of them, doubt theyd steal the car. if there gunna break into a car in more light they day light there probably not that kinda person.

i got a good alarm etc. more concerned of them vandalising my car then stealing it. they can have it and ill buy a gtr lol. car is verrrryyyyy well insured for a gtt, market value is huge on it for some reason.

wheel brace would leave no paint on my wheels that chip if you look at them the wrong way haha.

got no lock up garage and work locks the gate but itd be a good target to break in, blow the engine and crash into a tree.

do you think park under the dark tree in sight (if they set the alarm ill be able to look out the window, probably jump out of my window (2nd story) and beat the shit out of them. or park in the lit up park UNDER my bed, theyll be able to see what there doing but wont be able to have someone look out the window and go bam i see you.

hard choice...

You mentioned that your main concern of inconvenience and cost is vandalism.

That was my concern too when I used to do some locum pharmacy work in risky areas and I'd occasionally have to tell off some kid/s.

So I became friendly with some customers who'd accept my plea to park in their yards.

Will a kindly neighbour do the same for you?

yeah i know :( was looking at buying a property in the next month (just got knocked back on my loan an hour ago zzzz)

bahahah best idea, i heard on the news a boaconstrictor is on the loose in newcastle, should find that and whack him in there, although not sure itll fit hah.

also, how will i get in without it killing me??

yeah i got a friend a few suburbs over which may be safer. but my car is my commute. so wouldnt really work.... hmmm... i mean, i doubt theyll hit again, i think ill empty the car tonight, park in the lit up area, and open all glove boxes etc so they know theres nothing worth anything in it.

wish i had a bloody garage :(

easy...

1) park car under window in sight.

2) put camera in window.

3) put sign in car that says (you're being watched you motherf**king dream boats).

4) connect Sniper rifle to motion detector and aim it at drivers side window.

5) fix spelling and grammar...

sleep easy?

Opening glove box and centre consoles are a good idea.

The snake idea I got from when my nuns car got stolen when I was younger.

Sisters boyfriend saw some guys driving it on his way over.

Didn't recognize them, so followed them.

They ended up in an apartment complex, very close to the train station carpark they stole it from.

So, mother, sister, and sisters boyfriend go round and wait for cops.

One of the local residents is returning home, and they start talking.

Mother explains what's going on, and he comes out with, "no worries, I caught a snake today, so i'll put it on the front seat".

So, they put a snake, in a heshian sack on the front seat so the bastards would move it anywhere.

So, cops arrive, and straight away back up when they hear what's in the car.

Don't think.it'll help you, but it is a pretty cool story.

One of the only good ones I have that's actually true.

Or.::: I could sleep in the car? Although in this state I'm not much of a threat hah. Give me a coupla sober hrs.

Tsk tsk, think I had 3 to many.

I woke up for work at 4, got organized, Went to leave. Hmm where are my keys... Oh shit did someone break in to steal my car?! Take gfs keys, Car is there, take her car to work. onthe way I remembered I gave gfs mum everything in my pockets last night for safe keeping hahaha.

Car is all safe and sound :)

Short Story called, "The SWITCH"

* Once upon a time there was a man named Rux

* He'd saved up for ages for a nice GTR

* Parking this specimen in a safe place was a problem

* His neighbour's car was vandalised

* Rux wasn't willing to lose sleep and wait for the inevitable

* He'd already seen cars slow down whilst occupants eyed off his car

* Rux put his car into storage and bought a near identical rusty Sh!tbox version to park in the same old spot

* He went to Supercheap and bought a car cover

* Late at night he went to the local police station and stole a set of plates off a police car

* Rux switched these plates with the ones on his Sh!tbox and put the car cover over it and the plates

* This he did every night and in the morning, he would put the Sh!tbox plates back on again

* Sure enough, the thieves eventually returned

* They thought Rux was dumb to think that a lowly car cover would prevent a theft

* But they didn't realise that Rux was only making sure the plates were covered

* After one of his restful sleeps Rux awoke to find his 'precious car' had been perloined.

* He discreetly took the real Sh!tbox plates down to the police station and switched them with those on another police car

* Rux tossed those police car plates into a council bin and went inside the station to report the theft

The thieves were caught pretty quickly and were charged with 3 counts of stealing instead of 1

Rux now parks his GTR at the front with the previously discarded car cover over it.

if i had to park outside il get a car cover, if they cant see it then its not the easiest target.

Im sure you can get some real sturdys ones that could even require some sort of lock and chain to take the cover off.

Still. Its a pain in the arse, But youll sleep better :)

    • Version 1 aluminium airbox is.......not acceptable No pics as I "didn't like the look.....alot" Even after all my "CAD", and measurements, the leg near the fusebox just didn't sit right as it ended up about 10mm long and made the angle of the dangle look wrong, the height was a little short as well, meh, I wasn't that confident that Version 1 was going to be an instant winner I might give Version 2 another go, there's plenty of aluminium at work, but, after having in on and off a few times, and laying in the old OEM airbox without the new pod filter and MAF, there may be an option to modify the OEM air box and still use the Autoexe front cover and filter.... maybe This >  Needs to fit in here, but using the panel, and not the pod, the MAF will need to fit in the airbox though> I'm thinking as the old OEM box and Autoexe cover that is sitting in the shed is just sitting around doing nothing, and they are relatively abundant and cheap to replace if I mess it up and need another, it may well fit with some modifications to how the Autoexe brackets mounts to the rad support, and some dremiling to move it get in there, should give me some more room for activities, as I don't want to move the MAF and affect the tune Sealing the hole it requires to stick it in the air box is simple, a tight fit and some pinch weld will seal it up tight  I am calling this a later problem though
    • and it ends up being already priced in as though you're just on 91RON without any ethanol. Car will lose a bit of economy as the short and long term fuel trims bring down the AFR back to stoich or whatever it is for cruise/idle for the engine.
    • Oh, you are right. But, in Australia E10 is based on 91RON fuel and ends up being 94RON. Hence it being the cheaper option for economy cars. The more performance oriented cars go for the 98RON fuel that has no ethanol mixed in. The only step up we have left then at some petrol stations is E85.
    • There is a warning that "this thread is super old" but they ignore that anyway...
    • With 10% Ethanol, we're talking 2-3% fuel consumption difference. The emissions reductions and octane boost in my opinion far outweigh this almost non existent loss.    My tanks sitting at 80%. Luckily that should go down fast as I'm on vacation again for the next two weeks.
