cbf writing up a whole story on the car guys so heres a picture story

where it all began as a CA18DE here shown jus with coilovers n wheels

post-43210-0-79949600-1331040262_thumb.jpg

removed bashed doors n chucked on doors from my old bent s13 n a bit of nismo/garden edge love

post-43210-0-52610100-1331040261_thumb.jpg

went reverse panda

post-43210-0-16648100-1331040260_thumb.jpg

at this stage it was CA18DE+T with a full trust TD05 kit...2 weeks later blew the headgasket so freshened up the motor chucked some JUN Cams in n was ready to go back in

post-43210-0-30791400-1331040467_thumb.jpg

then the RB24 popped up for sale from my mate, whom brought it down in a 32 drag/wangan car from japan was making 370kw on pump98 with a TO4Z with massive boost leak n coil packs cutting down

so the CA got ditched n then started the long n draining story of this silvia build

pictured here with its first turbo setup...HOLSET HX35W of a diesel truck engine

Great first post for a build thread - if only the rest had all that detail and information, well done.

This car would be a riot to drive too, love it

thanks bro yer it is a handful n loves wide open throttle :)

wow , so is there anything left to do to the car apart from taking trim out?

pretty much only thing left...left the trim in there because initial plan was to keep it a street car but lost my licence too many times n thought otherwise

Interesting car mate, can I ask how it feels with the spring rates you have? Seems a little odd. Nice build though!

thanks bud

car feels stupidly quick, i like more of a soft setting to maintain full traction under full throttle even my front dampeners are on level 2 out of the 12 available lol

i still gotta get camber arms n toe arms for the rear n wind it out to about +.05 camber then just hold on for some stupid high speeds lol

  • 3 years later...

*EDIT*

for those interested, this motor took a turn for the worse after not even 3 track days, at calder i broke the oil pump when i went to clutch 4th due to a very early gear change on my part...the force of the 3-plate clutch pushed the crank straight thru n1 oil pump ending my day

however we pulled the motor down realized it was a godsend, the bearings were very close to be needing to be replaced and the crank was unharmed so a full overhaul was decided

also to those interested that was expecting a full house list of components myself included, well a surprise was in place

internals:

STOCK crank

STOCK rods

STOCK toyota piston

head:

STOCK

cams:

still unknown duration and lift

injectors:

mazda rx7 550cc

headgasket:

tomei(assuming)

oil pump:

n1

we were so shocked at how such a basic modded motor could put out the power it has done

here's a list of upgrades that will be going in/around the motor

ARP head studs

ARP main studs

ARP conrod bolts

TOMEI 1.2mm head gasket

BOSCH injectors(most likely 1000cc)

REIMAX oil pump gears

LIMIT bigger sump with tomei baffle

LIMIT oil breathing system/can

LIMIT surge tank

044 x2

SPOOL head drain kit

TD06H-25G 10cm turbo

TURBOSMART PRO-gate

MICROTECH LT12 ECU

and since scrapping the track s13 the motor will now reside in my daily driven R32 sedan

    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
    • Not required but appreciated. Super Coppermix Twin even the non-competition model feels like the pedal is noticeably heavier than stock which was pretty well judged IMO. I'll be swapping in the Nismo operating cylinder soon to see how that feels.  Personally I haven't felt anything that justifies replacing the damping loop, at least compared to more modern stuff where the clutch delay valve is actually quite noticeable.
