Hi Guys

I have a 1997 Skyline r33 GTS25T Series 2

Dealer told me the battery was pretty much on its way out when I bought it and after 30min searching(didnt know the damn thing was in the boot!) I found the battery. Tried to start after two days of sititng and just rapid clicking sounds....dead battery

I could of gone with what was recommended(NS40ZLX), but wheres the fun in that? Also I wanted something that can handle the extra audio gear I will have inside and want to be confidant that I have enough juice left every time I turn the key - so after pouring through searches relating to batteries, optima and skylines, I eventually purchased an Optima Yellow top d34 for $265 via eGay.

My question is , what would I have to do to make this fit? I'm already aware that it wont fit as easily as they Optima d51 .I'm also aware that I would have to get bigger terminals as the stock skyline battery has smaller terminals. Is there anything else that needs to be modded? Will it even fit in the space I have?

Does anyone know the stock measurements of the skyline battery(car isn't with me atm to measure)

ive been looking into ojne of these bad boys aswell, Why did you choose this particular model?

i decided i wanted to try an optima because of their reviews of long life and excellent performance. The yellow top apparently is better to power audio systems and I plan to put in a decent setup.

The smaller model(the d51) didn't have enough CCA to warrant being the same price as this one.

So I went with the higher CCA one, the D34 , will only be able to install on Friday so wanted to know how much trouble Id have fitting this in there.

stock battery from r33 skyline series 2 dimensions anyone?

I never had a problem with the stock sized R33 battery, but if you want to go bigger, this guy can show you what's involved.

Looks like bit of a mission to me.

thank you , i bought the optima anyway so I will have to make it fit. thanks for the link , will simplify my job greatly

I did mine differently to the link. Angle piece on left side that supports the rear and side of battery is only spot welded on. Cut the 2 welds with a grinder then placed it under the tray sticking up on the left at the desired length and welded underneath. Modded mine to suit an 880cca CAT battery. Terminals require changing too

    • I much prefer that to an actual oil pressure issue, never would of thought it would of been a volt drop issue but SAU brains win again. Guess ill be turning down the oil pressure limit for the track and hunting some grounds. Ill hopefully update this thread with some high oil pressure and solid ecu voltage logs. 
    • You've just discovered a really good reason to tell yourself, yes, I do need to buy an aftermarket ECU. Put the MAF in the bin. Slap in the new ECU and have a think about what turbo sounds you prefer.  Do you want a 90's style BOV wooosh? Do you want a hektik tsututututu?  Mate, can't go wrong. Just gotta get that ECU and the world is your oyster. 
    • Hi. Iam just curisou about this topic. I saw this video. It is about Greddy Type FV2. I know that BoVs are about that sound but how and when to use it? I read some topic here and from what i have understand on stock RB with MAF there will be some "problems" if you use this BoV? It vents the air in to the atmosphere and the MAF on stock car needs this air back in to the intake and not out? Or is it wrong? If so...i saw you can put some adaptor to circule air back...but does that not "loose" that sound? I saw another BoV from Turbosmart and it has two "exhaust" like ports? One is for the stock tubing for letting air back and one is for "sound" and let the air in the atmosphere? Can someone please explain? This is the Greddy one:  And this is the Turbosmart.     THANK YOU!! EDIT: So i read about this topic some more and i if i understand that correctly: That Greddy can function either like BoV or 100% Bypass valve? And that Turbosmart is what they called hybrid so you can adjust what and how many air can be vented out or back in? Is this right? THX!
    • That dirty voltage drop is the culprit I suspect 
    • i cant get them all in 1 screenshot unfortunately as i just dont know how to move things around tbh, but they are all from the same log and the line crosses at the same point for all of them
