Unfortunately police have to goven stupid rules made by even stupidier goverment bodies. We, like so many other people have endless problems with theft, graffiti and so forth in our suburb that it is well beyond a joke, but the usual police response is what do you want us to do??? it is not thier fault but the goverments laws really favour the criminal. it is easier to bust some dude doing a burnout than robbing someones house.

I wrote a letter in to the advertiser, bottom of the link, posted at top of page. i suggest you all do too. Be sensible and mention the lack of patrols and surveilance in places it count like our suburbs and too many concentrating on 'HOONS' who have probaly never done anything worse than screach some tyres!

new motto should read "SORRY WE CANT HELP YOU, BUT WE CAN BUST YOU"

i kinda agree ... but think about it ... these kids are doing some stupid shit on the road .. eg .. anzac highway on a friday or saturday night ... if u take a drive down there what do u see?? mostly vn commies (sometimes an import but most times a commie or ford) going at it like theres no tomorrow ... thats the sorta stuff i wouldnt' mind them stop ... but i find it quite annoying when i see a copper pull over an import for no apparent reason and i've seen that plenty of times too ...

hippy, there is already anti 'hoon' laws, its called the road traffic act. Dangerous driving, creating excessive noise are two that come to mind.

If the cops werent out setting performance car defect stations, perhaps they would see guys going fully over the top in places where they shouldnt. Then again, when was the last time someone was hurt by a doughnut?

I agree with autobarn, get the cops out there chasing criminals, instead of trying to re-invent the wheel by changing existing laws that should be more than adequate.

When are the law makers and politicians going to start seeing what is happening and start protecting public from criminals, instead of making public into criminals and letting the real criminals go around unmolested?

Had a doughnut caught in my throat last night does that count Steve:)

Its un Australian not to do the occasional Doughy as long as its in a safe area.

Mayb we should all put holden badges on our cars to confuse the cops and they wouldnt know what to do then

I will write something also, something along the lines of what you have already stated.

The goverment would rather focus on the east tasks like confiscating peoples cars, which they should have the right to do, it's not their property.

you don't even get that bad a rap for drink driving!

a burnout may be annoying, but it doesn't kill people.

why don't they start confiscating my house cause i have my music up to loud?

Its just an independant party offering a bill to parliament. I dont think they will accept the bill on the basis of there being too many loop holes. It would be saying that cars were illegal? yes?

I agree with Autobarn's initial post. This is complete bollocks. I think its ironic you can drink drive and not lose your licence for a first offence, its only a points system, but do a burnout and they take away all your vehicle priviledges.

10 stores have been knocked over by thieves in the past month or so, but cause each individual theft was under 25k it is petty theft (or something) totals over 150k it attracts no attention and is just too hard to follow up. but hey, if they do a burnout lets bust em'

ps. is it true? that someone drink driving killed a minor last week and got off withh 100 dollar fine? i missed the first half of radio broadcast.

it is not as bad as doing 'wheelies' obviously. ohh well, pretty sure it wasnt a young 'HOON' either but more your socialite type.

well i can't argue with them not doing real police work ...

but maybe arguments shouldnt' be vented towards police ... they are only doing what they get told to do ... think about it .... its old codgers like Steve who have nothing better to do then think of how they can make a name for themselves so they need to make someone a criminal and be little them to make themselves big ....

but yes cops need to do real cop stuff ...

why dont these offences attract the same demerit point loss as everything else?? and anyway, doing a burnout is far less dangerous than speeding or running a red light... both of which already attract demerit points as far as i know.

I don't understand what they classify as hoon behaviour anyway... ok maybe doing an extended burnout or doghnut is hoon behaviour... but surely not screeching your tyres, cos your average fwd will screech if you accelerate when on a white line... and most rwd cars will wheelspin if you are a bit too aggressive with the right foot

speeding is already covered under other laws

defects are covered by other laws

what else is there??

accelerating hard in a 4wd u are a hoon (no wheelspin here though)??

maybe if you speed in an import or a car with a loud exhaust you are a hoon and the demerit point system doesnt apply to u??

or if your car is lowered and you have a big GT wing and you spin the wheels you are a hoon??

is an executive in a magna who is speeds or screetches the tyre a hoon also??

I don't get it... and i don't see how they can implement it

Write letters to parliments lower house members if the law gets stuck there it will go no where!

Good luck

How about having finance on the car?

There must be a loop hole there...

I want to become a coper and bust the people who are involved in introducing this law,

Sir I heard your tyres squeel as it hit the white line. :(

But yer.. Anzac is full of Commodores & Fords.

You may as well write letters to f@%king El'Presidente Bush for all it's worth.

These laws will come into effect in SA, without a doubt. SA is only following the lead from the other states that already have these tough 'anti hoon' laws in place. I don't agree with it, but 10's of 1000's of other SA citizens sure as hell will.
