can anyone with a 34 GTR please confirm for me if the following plug should be plugged into anything, my mechanic seems to think the 02 sensors are fine, he thinks the cause is the oil in the intake pipe getting on the AFM causing it to not read properly and to fix this i need to change the turbos out............... im not to sure what to make of that tbh

Is the car missing or is it just a boost problem?

if its AFM it should be running like shit and missing here and there i would have thought?

if its just not boosting sounds like a leak someone? maybe in the inlet manifold or something if its still registering boost?...

im not mechanic, just thoughts..

also if alot of oil is around the AFM.. could mean new turbos.. leak on the inside somewhere?...

If your talking about the plug near the twin turbo pipes yes it should be plugged in. Its either one of your AFM plugs or o2 sensors plugs.

If one of Your AFMS isn't plugged in, then this would explain your preiodic boost.

A little bit of oil residue in your pipes is normal - any running/pooling oil isn't and is a sign your turbos seals are shagged.

AFM's do funny things - particualry if there on the way out (i.e. speratic voltage reading). Down low they aren't really doing much, up high on the other hand....

Mine did a funny thing............................................................................................................................................. It went in the bin and i laughed!

yea my car runs much better without them too.. but i did still leave them attached to the engine!

LMFAO THIS GUY BAHAHAHAH

Yeh i was like dafuq is this plug for?????? the oil is all the way to the airbox, my mechanic changed the plugs cleaned the AFM and it boosted and ripped then like 40km later it stopped boosting again, it misses as it hits boost and boost does not come on but the MFD is reading boost to .9 bar :woot: so its all spooling and shiz. i have 2 plugs that are taped togeather behind the twin turbo pipe and 1 is plugged in and 1 is not.

Well mine is suposed to be a farking specialist who has worked on these many times....... Team K Kustoms did the work the motor runs realy well the build is great on it even without it boosting properly it still has shit loads of power, im waiting on a call back from him atm, my main issue is the 20L of fuel it used to do 75km on the way to work.....

i might try unplugging the AFM and see if it runs without them and comes on boost, after he cleaned them and changed the plugs yesterday it went like a rocket, he thinks the turbos may be spitting oil back up the intake pipes and coating them in shit so they are not reading correctly.

yea see what your guy says...

i cant imagine it would run too well unplugging the AFMs...

Does it have an aftermaket ecu? was it tunned after the build? sounds like it is running very rich....

stock ecu, not sure how much u can tune a stock ecu.... well if it will come on boost with the AFM off then i know thats the issue and i just have to work out why all this oil is in the pipes

yea cant tune stock 34r ecus.. mine had a custom chip installed onit that was very rare that could be tuned, but there arent really any people who tune it anymore so its pretty useless.. ive got a haltech running via MAP now.. much better!

yea a large amount of oil sounds bad.. maybe check pipes on the other side to see if there is more up near the inlet etc?..

The soldering joins on my Afm f**ked up when I cleaned it. Can't remember what happened though... Not it either wouldn't start or revs were bouncing all over I can't remember. But as Joel said it could do funny things when on boost because more air more volts and boom.

I would only be touching what your mechanic says dude. If you f**k something it's bye bye warranty.

ATM it's his job to fix it not yours

Yeh he told me to give the pipes a clean and the AFM to with the spray can cleaner, at lucn im going to get some paper towels and open the pipe and give it a wipe down around the AFM i dont have the tools to get to the one under the airbox, might have to park the car up at home and get the train for the rest of the week.

Proven 6% better flow when you gut them. DONT GUT WORKING MAF's THOUGH!!!!

This pic lets you see the plug better btw.

Follow the lead - where does it go? it's definatly o2 or MAF though and the other end should be around that location somewhere.

Did someone say dash 7s??

Just keep modifying until it's fixed IMO :)

This man nailed it

If in doubt MOAR boost! :woot:

The answer to everthing in life. More boost.

If in doubt - 30+psi and RWD is the answer.

    • They usually get made by hand as part of any such swap.
    • Was planning on getting an R35 MAF and the adapter, should this be okay? Also any idea where I could get my hands on an intake pipe?
    • I mean yes, if you're starting from scratch on an unknown engine yes you don't need to be doing all kinds of math in the background but if you're doing relatively minor changes like AFM + injectors + boost up with some aftermarket turbos it takes quite a bit of math if you want to do something like maintain OEM fuel + timing tables but compressed and then a bit more load scale up top. I think I've spent too much time working on big engineering nightmares though so I'm a big fan of trying to constrain the scope of whatever work I'm doing as much as possible and trying to get it right before moving on. For example, a local owner just did the usual E85 + single turbo conversion to his R32 GTR and nearly burned his car to the ground doing some spirited driving up the local mountains. Turbine is unshielded and too close to the hood insulation. It's tough to balance "just get the project done" and "seemingly small details can cause massive setbacks I'm not willing to deal with".
    • No idea about Neil's steering wheel, but I have the same behaviour in the Stagea. I doubt it has ever been messed with so might be normal. Indicating to turn right at a roundabout and correcting even a little bit to the left to go around will cancel the indicator. Never considered it an issue other than it being a bit odd.
    • Does anyone know if this is off centered? Looks like it, when I indicate to go right, but turn my steering wheel slightly left it cancels (was always like that even before I started messing around with it) was wondering if anyone else has the same issue?
