Just some epic oil leaking problems - caught it before the engine starved thank god... but motivation has been extremely low lately to finish the car and i'm looking for a house...so the current thought trail is too pull motor+go fast bits--> sell shell --> buy house-->find something to put motor in

How's yours going? havent been on the threads very often lately.

Yes we do need to get out one night

Will have to work out a date everyone is free

Your welcome

Oh and Newcastle council are well f**ked

Did the first delivery today ( a new roof ) and the home owner tells me that the council has had a last minute change of mind and will not let him put a new iron roof on as he has to retain the look with tiles

Pity as he probably spent around $6000 for the roof sheets and ridge caps and now isn't allowed to have it fitted

And we all thought garages where hard

are there any more spots ant? I think id enjoy it but I wouldn't get into it. I work with a guy that races and he said every race meet costs around 500 bucks each. from tyres and rebuilding your engine after every second meet etc to get the most power etc. can go to wake field for that.

hah don't you watch rally matt? half the cars are hatch backs the other half are evos and wrxs

Nah, you dont need to rebuild after every race, unless you want to win a championship. I race just for fun and times. It costs me on average $50 for a day, including fuel and mainenance, and after 4-6 days, a set of tyres. They cost $230 for a set of slicks. Its good cheap fun.

Like anything though, If you want to get serious, then it costs big money. If you want to just have a bit of fun (like going to wakefield), the its cheap as chips.

Honesly, Go-Karts are sooooo cheap compaired to running at wakefield. For one trip to wakefield, you could do a kart trackday every week for a month, including a new set of tyres.

Father-in-law and I just built a trailer to haul our karts to and from the track. It cost $150 for the materials, we welded it all together and bolted it to his 6x4" box trailer. Done.

And still cheaper then a $25k car damaged at a trackday...

Driving a car fast on track is good fun, and is also risky (financially).. So many things can go wrong and get damaged. Even wear and tear is expensive.

A go-kart is sooooo much fun. They are crazy quick, and the speed you can pull through corners is in line with proper race cars with aero etc. not to mention they teach you so much about chassis and suspension setups.

You should at least go to a come and try day.

Agree with you completely, thats why i got interested, tracking a car is very bloddy expensive! and you still cant actually race like you do in a kart.

    • Curious to see how the SpeedTek stuff holds up
    • The holdups last year were drivetrain related. I had the car out right after getting the bearing issue resolved. Third launch and the car didn't move after releasing the clutch. It had sheared all the engagement teeth off the 1st gear.    Thankfully no other damage was done. I set an aftermarket gear beside an OEM gear and found that the engagement teeth on the OEM gear were much larger and better supported. Looking through my bin of spare transmission gears I found that there are two types of tooth on the OEM first gears - the larger tooth and the smaller tooth. It looks like most aftermarket gearset manufacturers base their design on the smaller tooth. OEM large tooth left - Speedtek, OS Giken, etc or OEM small tooth right Decided to give that larger engagement tooth a try. Pressed the ring off an OEM gear and sent it to a transmission manufacturer here in the States. They did their "faceplating" operation with my synchro ring on the Speedtek gear.   I reassembled it, took it back to the track and promptly destroyed the gear itself.  I'll rebuild this and use it as a spare - thankfully just first gear and the countershaft are damaged beyond repair. Definitely disheartening but my welded on engagement tooth ring held up!  Moved to Speedtek's dog engagement design as the gears appear to be much stronger. So far they have taken much more abuse at the track. Also scored a Stillway lockout from the Netherands for super cheap. It's for some other RB transmission so it took a bit of fabrication to fit but honestly a very easy job. I also had to heavily modify the gates as they were very different.   Then for some reason at the last test and tune a silicon coupler below the throttle blew off and took out the radiator and fan. Thankfully it was in the burnout box and not down track. This car is really beating me up - I still haven't made a pass in it. Ran it through the gears many times on the street but it keeps biting me at the track.  Currently in the process of replacing the radiator and remaking the throttle pipe to remove the coupler and use a cast 90 and a vband. I WILL get this thing down the track...
    • Covers most of the above points really. There's a few exceptions but most just see driving as an irritating but necessary task they must complete if they want to get anywhere on time. Also see it as a good time to show their awesome multi-tasking abilities on their mobile and/or doing their makeup.
    • I don't believe I posted pictures of the second oil pump pickup I added so here they are. Data shows it gets oil pressure up to the relief pressure much earlier in the RPM. Is that important? Not likely... This was just another attempt to fix the bearing issues.   I also heavily opened up the inlet to the pump since it now had to flow oil from two pickups. I believe the diameter increased about 1/8".
    • Yes, ther are plenty of [racist statement alert] terrifying 50+ yr old ladies of a certain ethnic origin who have no demerits yet still manage to park their cars on top of roundabouts, hanging out of multistory car parking structures and other wild shenanigans. Somehow they puddle through years of driving without ever attracting the attention of the cops, yet the whole time, they are an instant away from doing something spectactularly stupid.
