Hey Guys,

Going to service my '02 M35 VQ25DD later this week (doing it myself), was wondering if I could get some advice on what grade of oil to use.

The car is mostly used for short 15 minute trips, combination of 50km/h and 100km/h roads. Its done 135,000ks and is still running nice and smooth.

I have searched this forum and can't find any info on oil for a non turbo engine.

Thanks

Justin

Something decent like a grade 4 or 5 oil. People all run different things, and you'll get some brand recommendations.

If your DIY inclinded, the dd motors are prone to carboning up the intake. There is a thread about dd motors and how to clean the top end Manifolds in them. Have a search. And look at the pics.

Being a direct injection motor, several people have recommended I use a synthetic oil to help reduce the inevitable carbon build up you get in the intake plenum, runners and behind the valves. If yours has done 135,000km without a strip and clean, it'll probably be pretty coked up already. Have a look just after the throttle body coupling and you'll be shocked at what you can see even back there.
