You'll be surprised that many "top notch" tuners will just use a pretuned map from another car and use it on yours, charge you the $1000 or so and give you 1x dyno sheet with some show pony numbers.

I've corrected a few tunes on a few of my mates cars and have seen total horse sht ignition maps that would go from 12 to 20 in the next row. Mind you, these are so called "hectic $$$$$$$$$$$ big name guys too"

Bring it to someone that will do the job properly, like Unigroup or DVS, they tune for passion not for the dollars.

Also touched up a tune on my friend's brother in law's ET Pulsar running a Motec (ancient pos, yuck!), he brought it to a shop on Stacey Street, Bankstown (now have closed wonder why!) to get his car tuned, he was running longer duration cams and decomped his head (god knows why) and they said it's not possible for the car to idle. They still charged him $500+ and he left with a ridiculous tune that would knock on boost, misfire and die at the lights.

I think the car is playing games with me lol..

after a 10min drive, the car was idling like a full on rotary, i guess it wouldnt hurt to go see horsepower solutions at capalaba then, fairly local,

but im getting a bit over all the $$$$ thats getting poured into this car..

It is getting to the point of the 8hr drive, i seem to recall the very first time i started the car with those cams it idles almost normal with just a slight miss, only things that have changed are the tune and the Z32 air flow..

i think ill have a look at the maps then to see if it looks odd. what would i be looking for anyway? what area on a power fc would you look at for this idle stuff?

Where the litters bled before cams were installed? They probably don't need to be if the base circles are identical but if there is a lobe with a slightly larger base circle then possibly you have a valve that isn't fully sealing. Have seen it before, as the valve heats up and becomes elongated the valve stops sealing only slightly enough to cause a slight misfire. Usually only noticeable when the engine is at low rpm when hot.

Also when an engine doesn't respond to changes in the tune then generally you should be looking elsewhere.....

I never knew anything about bleeding lifters, how would i check that?

I just spoke to Horsepower solutions at capalaba, he says it could be related to reversion in the intake pipe because the airflow meter is used by the power fc so thats what controls the idle? but he'd have to charge me a dyno fee to look at the tune, so $650

He also said id need 2 044Bosh pumps to run E85??? that sounds extreme to me..

Dan (ERD) and Sean (EFI) are two different people who just happen to share a workshop, any Beef you have with ERD should not carry over to EFI. EFI has an osciliscope that should be able to work out what the issue is with your car pretty easily!

On the topic of the intake pipe, horse power solutions could be onto somthing, what does the intake pipe look like? I think the ancient law goes you need at least 2 bends in the pipe to avoid reversion. Acts as a bit of a buffer so to speak

2 x 044s to run E85?

sounds extreme to me, but maybe they are playing it extra safe?

If i need 2 external pumps to run E85 then i wont be going down that route, will be doing water/meth instead.

One 416lph Walbro will flow more than enough, so would a Nismo/Tomei pump. What does the 044 flow on ethanol though?

Should flow more than enough :) how much power is the OP aiming for?

Bosch websites states 040 flows only 102lph @6.5 bar & 044 flows 200lph @ 5 bar

damn and hear I thought the 040 was a good upgrade for me... suck I'll have to replace it if I want to go E85 by the sounds of it...

Should be fine... Ill be running over that with a single 044... Well will have a result by the end of the week anyway so ill let you know how it goes...

    • It only looks tidy, as most of the stuff that was on the whole back wall, is now in the trailer to go to the tip, or has been shoved in my 2.2x2.4m "Spare parts room", and now I can't get to anything in there Ha ha ha I could definitely do with a bit more space, but I'd just end up with your problems I'm going to enclose the car port beside the garage, and move a lot of stuff into it I think. OR... It will be setup as a fabrication area, and the main garage will have parts storage in it. I'm not sure yet... Need some pictures of that big shed you've got with the bikes and Skyline in
    • No. I think it's gone. 😭 I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.
    • Can't say I've had a bad experience with one on my car, then again it only gets washed once or twice a year... The wheels on the other hand, get a good spray often due to my shitty dusty pads.
    • @MBS206 thats pretty neat and tidy to me!  I'll get a photo of mine when I'm out there next. It might require multiple photos to understand the scale of the atrocities though... In total I have 4 sheds of varying sizes and layouts. Main shed is 14x8, second shed is 3x8, third shed is 11x2.5, fourth shed is around 6x4.  All are pretty much full.   The main goal of my cleaning tsunami is to make the main shed predominantly car and motorbikes only. Second shed is my metal fab room (2 x bench grinders, drill press, bench belt sander, metal band saw, scrap metal storage and some of my garden tools.  3rd shed is more bigger garden stuff, storage for engine crane, jack stands, concrete grinder, concrete mixer, air compressor lives there, and it now has two 2mx2m pallet racking shelves with itemised boxes holding building stuff, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, etc, etc.  The 4th shed is Ryobi electric ride on mower, mini boom sprayer, ancient Kubota tractor, more garden stuff!  I have got a lot of shit....  Then there's the pool house (8mx4m) and the pool pump shed (4mx4m).  I built all of the sheds over the 11 years we've been here.  The main shed was a Ranbuild kit, the rest are all custom made to fit the areas available. Building the main shed taught me a LOT as I had no idea about building anything prior to that!  I've still got one more in me. It will be my man cave which I poured the extra concrete for way back when I poured the concrete for the main shed. The idea is the Skyline will be a centre piece of the main cave once (if...) it's finished.  I told my now 14 year old son yesterday that I will 100% drive him to his year 10 formal in 2 years. Still a long way off but at least I now have a date to work towards! 🤣
