LPG works to some extent, but the die and lubricating oil doesn't mix with it causing wear apparently. There are new refrigeration gasses being developed but they all require new compressors or systems. The latest push is to use carbon dioxide gas but the system would have to handle much more pressure than it does at the moment. (I think BMW and Mercedes are trialling it)

I asked the aircon specialist how much his prices would rise, he said the gas price was nearly doubling but that shouldn't add too much (around $30) to the cost of a re-gas, as only 5-700g of gas is used.

Think your aircon mate is in for a shock.

Gas price is going up a lot more than double.

Check Hychill site for the lube info etc.

There's mega dollars at stake world wide, and the mis-infomation spread by existing gas manufacturers is amazing.

Funny how the Du Pont name keeps cropping up.

a highly refined version of LPG was used years ago but as stated above, it can go BOOM if / when it leaks into the cabin, aircon systems would only need to be run once a week during winter to keep the seals lubed up, also helps with keeping the windscreen demisted
