Well I ended up putting the actuator rod in my vice grip and straightend it out to fit.

It apparently has a 11.7psi spring in it so I hooked it up and went for a spin.

WOW! My over boost issue is gone and the car pulls all the way to 11.7psi! I will install my boost gauge again double check the boost levels are ok.

Here are some pics.

It's not the actuators causing it. It's poor installation (things like VAC leaks, lines too long etc) and/or other issues like exhaust restriction.

I ran the HKS actuators for years without a problem. Boost was perfectly stable all the time.

It is at 17psi but at 22psi, its not. It drop by about 1.5 psi at 7k rpm. thanks

the hks are rated at 11psi.

If you don't want it to drop psi you will need to upgrade the spring tension in the actuators to your desired boost level or as close as possible.

1.5 psi isn't much of a drop though. Most people are happy with that.

-9s will ALWAYS drop up to 3psi by 8200rpm when running 20psi+.

You need to remember they are small turbos and come on @ 3300rpm. You cannot expect them to hold for 5000rpm of powerband as they are a response turbo, not a top end one. Usually they start falling off around 7000rpm and by 7500rpm it's time to change gears.

so the end result for the actuator good or bad ?????

For a stock turbo GREAT. No need to worry about over boosting, boost all the way through the rev range.

The ebay company I bought it off has pretty lousy customer service. I also had to alter the actuator arm to fit.

    • Excuse me for butting in....but which part of ADHD can be considered a superpower? I would have though it far more likely that some ASD comorbidity is more likely to be contributing to an ability to hyperfocus on something. ADHD being aimed somewhat in the other direction. My shed looks like your shed. My whiteboard list of unfinished projects has entries going back 15 years. I know what you're talking about - I just struggle to connect ADHD to the results being discussed.
    • Thanks for reaching out!  It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.  I'm undiagnosed but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it in me... I have more half started projects laying around my house, shed, garden, etc taking up space and money, destroying aesthetics than if I added up all of my mates projects together. But, ADHD gives me the ability to hyper focus on things that no mere mortal could even  comprehend.  A recent pool build is an example of that....  I dont know anyone else that would be dumb enough and focused enough to take on then complete something of that magnitude. I call ADHD a superpower but it can equally be completely destructive if not controlled and focusedon the right places. Addiction is a major concern to ADHD people and thankfully my addictions have been no worse than projects, XBOX, chocolate and being an arsehole! It's often hereditary and my 13 year old son is currently learning how to drive it at the moment. Keep lurking! If i can finally finish this bloody thing at some point it will be a win for all of us ADHD'ers! 🤪
    • I've been quietly following this thread for ages, but this one got me. Since my ADHD diagnosis (and associated learnings and prescription) I'm way less inclined to wade into forum yarns when there are better things to do with my time, as half the time I'd end up in some kind of forum debate even if that wasn't my intention. I've not lost the ADHD "superpowers", just am a lot better at directing my hyperfocus into slightly more constructive things, but haven't stopped quietly lurking in here in my spare time.
    • Stripped the tank down and gave it a good scrub. It came up really good! Not sure if I'll just put it back in like that or give it a blackening treatment (such as Bowdens The Black Box). That might give it a matte look so might just run it as is.
    • @MBS206 Ha ha, yeah ADHD is a daily battle to not get drawn in to doing things you want to do that you know you shouldn't do!  Every single time I walk into my shed I end up doing something I started the day having zero intention of doing! I keep mentioning the 1 step forward, 3 steps back scenario and I'm tipping people that are blessed with ADHD (yes, blessed) are the worst at that!
