so I got my car recently and i want to give drifting a go. question is that I'm a low baller and cant afford lessons with Project D let alone being able to drive a manual is a requirement. I've got a R34 GT auto. is it possible to drift with tiptronic?

Serious question guize

I feel the heat coming on soon

Yep, Texi will let you enjoy the car and try slide it... I think sliding is possible but drift would be pretty hard in an Auto and without power etc... But by all means come out and have a crack :)

Yep, Texi is well worth it - it's not exactly drifting, but you will learn a bit about what you and your car are capable of (or not!).

First-time entry fee = $35

AASA Licence = $50 (lasts for a year)

Helmet = approx $80-300, depending on what you want.

Wear long sleeves, long pants, enclosed shoes, and you're set!

as much as you decide to lay down really :D

If a $35 texi is an issue funds wise, don't worry about looking to hard into any form of serious motorsport including drifting. They are all really hard on your car, and require heaps of maintenance between outings, not to mention entry fees, travel to and from venues, fuel etc.

Just get out and give some motorkhanas and maybe hillclimbs a go - they are designed to be quick, cheap and fun for normal people with normal budgets.

And then if you win lotto you can build a carbonfibre bodied r35 for time attack

Well all good advice in here. Texi is an excellent starting point. Agree that sliding an Auto is dificcult but not impossible. Would require a lot of handbrake and throttle over work. Leave it in 1st or 2nd so the rev's stay up. Never tried it myself so cannot comment further.

Simple priciple on drifting though, if you can't hold a 2nd gear wheel lock slide then you most definately won't be able to do one at 100k's pluss. Learning to do low speed angle control is where it all begins and you can practice your heart out at our Texi Skidpan.

Shutdown

I can afford the texi entry fee but in terms of maintenance and tyres is a no go for me. Apprenticeship wages suck balls :yucky:

I think I'll wait until I get more money or get on my fulls then get myself a GTT.

^ Good advice!! :D

What brand are your tyres? Most cheap hard tyres take a lot of punishment before wearing (hence why they grip like crap anyway lol)...

The ones I'm rolling on now is Ovation and on my set of stock wheels are Kendal Radial. JUST REALIZED I HAS ANOTHER SET OF WHEELS (after i forgot i had the stockies out back) :woot:

You can have a go in my car if you like?

Oh but no screamer pipes :P

Cant drive manual but. and what would you consider as a screamer? I think my pipe is a bit loud (for me anyways). maybe around 100db. it was like that when i got my 34

100Db is pretty loud. screamer pipes are generally on turbos (i don't know if they even go on NAs?) - look something like this

Qgxdd.jpg

these are horrendously loud

dave's joke about no screamers was meaning his car won't be out there because he has a screamer. even if you just come along and watch texi, and see if you want to enter next time? hop in a few cars or something too - if you want to do that, just make sure you've got ankle to wrist clothing - helmet needed too. MCAS has cheap ones :D (my last one was ~ $60 - this will last you a lifetime)

A "screamer" is where the waste-gate gasses coming off the turbo are vented to atmosphere instead of being channelled back into the exhaust, and because it's not muffled, it sounds like a scream.

Your exhaust should be fine if it's street legal.

C'mon, do it! Bring the spare tyres if you think you'll need them - it's better to have them and not need them, rather than need them and not have them. If you do wear out a set of tyres, at least you'll still have a set to get you home safely.

lol....

p.s. unless you get a engine cutout defender thingo ie: stops the car from stalling when handbrake is applied fast you cant use the handbrake in an auto without going into neutral, using handbrake then going back into gear.

So basically all you can do is "Power over" drifting and then possibly link corners from there, in all seriousness you are just going out there to do skids and look cool and have a laugh and enjoy yourself like everyone else :)

    • If that's the wiring from the factory, I'd be inspecting the loom everywhere.   Any signs of that anywhere else, and seriously, I'd get rid of the car ASAP before the electrical gremlins make it worthless, or it goes up in flames on its own. That is scary how that insulation is failing!
    • I should note too as I have all 4 wheel speed inputs to the emtron I now have the emtron controlling the attessa solenoid for 4wd/traction and launch control strategies.
    • It works quite well with the adjustibility within each of the programs of the turbolamik. Essentially p1 is drive and lockup comes on like a normal driver.  But in program 7 I have customised it to not request the lockup clutch to engage until something like 6500/7 when slip was the lowest.
    • Yep, I like that. The tags are only on the first post of a thread and we don't get huge numbers of new threads. Also, I plan to add some more report types and we could have a member report type like 'review tags' then members could flag if they thought a topic wasn't tagged correctly.  No way man, I dig the input. Thanks!
    • It's a valid thought. There's not exactly that functionality already (when creating a thread) - that's where the OP can use/create any tag they want. We'd have to come up with a way for the user to request their tags get reviewed or something. Otherwise the mods would have to review every new post's tags (for those that have them, anyway). There's kind of that functionality already exists to some extent, post facto of starting the thread, where the OP or any other user could report the post to admins, and request that tags get reviewed. We could do this already, and any user could already have made such a request. To make it a part of the forum proper, it would require an initial and an ongoing education programme, so that people know that it's a thing. OP based tagging/request for review would also require at least some (probably most) of the user base to be told that it's a thing they can do. Both of these things probably wouldn't spread too far and/or get used very much. If it was the standard approach on a lot of different sites, then it might do, because people would be used to it. Prank's approach to this differs from my original thought, by leaning into tagging. Which is fine - it's possibly better than what I originally suggested. In fact, I just went to the R32 GTR wiring diagram thread and added tags, including "Library". That's probably a good way to use tags and the idea of a library. We just have to drag together an (organised!) index of threads or posts that have that tag. I have yet to do any of my own follow up by pursuing worthy threads and posts and reporting/marking/tagging them for the library, such as the @Sydneykid stuff I was talking about, and possibly any amount of @Lithium 's and others' posts. At least if I tag them Library, we'll have a start.   Back to @Wazmond's idea as it relates to @PranK's, we might have some sort of a list of tags that are already used to scrape for this library. I'm not entirely sure how that would be presented or used, particularly if it got long. But it's yet another idea!   cheers
