Guys, i wonder if someone could give me some advice.

Im considering getting either an R32 GTS-T or a worked S13 Silvia/180sx.

I have around $14,000 and really can't make up my mind.

I've driven RB25's but not RB20's... how different are they? Can anyone give me some advice on RB20's... i really like the look of a GTS-T over an S13, but the lure of the s13 is that i can get a more cost effective (eg, a shitload more mods) than the 32.

I have found a completely stock R32 GTS-T for around $12,500... it has 127,000 clicks... how does this rate?

help!

***UPDATE***

I BOUGHT THE R32 WOOOOOO !:D

Thanks for the advice everyone :)

rb20s are bomb, you can rev sweet shit out of them

definatly go the 32

more traction, better interior, more space, looks better, the list goes on.......

mod for mod a silvia will have the edge over the 32 .due 2 the weight advantage, but its not to much of a problem

and imho, they sound soooooo much better than sr's

Try also asking on the Silvia/180 forum, the replies here you will get are obviously going to be biased towards skylines. :P I'm GTR biased.

Obviously your comparing the RB20DET to the SR20DET.

What is it your looking for in the cars? r32 isnt as quick as the s13, even in stock form, but you will be able to squeeze your mates in the back of the r32 a lot easier. Plus the skyline is a lot more popular in the public eye.

Thats why I love handing guys their ass in my s13. ;)

Try and find a '91-94 Silvia K's (thats the sr20det engine) with low km's in stock condition and take it for a test drive.

ahaha, thats true man, i've come across some of the ugliest s13's ever. And the few good ones that i've seen are stupid prices!

Just remember that S13 were built till 1998. My girlfriend is driving a 97 model 180 now, and it looks a lot better than the old S13, and to my eye it looks better than a R32 and has very nice interior. obviously they are not 14G, more like 20G. stock my old series 2 GTST was quicker although once each car was running 10-11 LBS the 180 was quicker. The blacktop engine is also much better than redtop, so I would suggest to spend a little more to get one (94 and up). I used to own an R32 and personally I would buy an S13.

apparently there is absolutely no difference between redtop and black top engines, and that is a myth.. its a common argument on nissansilvia.com

This may be because a 94+ engine is going to be newer, not because they have any design advantages.

180sx and std. s13 silvia are fairly different, although the same floor pan and a few other things.

s13's r32's what ever comes up in the best condition at the best price. i dunno about perth but really nicely done up r32's and s13's aren't done to death yet. i haven't yet seen an r32 done up to its full power and asthetics potential in aus yet. exterior: its debateable which is better, interior: 32 wins hands down! but use it as an excuse to get a set of brides etc...

Yes I agree that the pre 96 interior of S13 is no where as appealing as the R32, although the 96+ models have nicer interiors that alteast match r32, R33 skylines (have really cool seats) and electronic dash display, airbag etc. very nice cars

well, i had an S13, i didnt think the interior was that bad to be honest. the seats are a bit crap looking but i found them okay to sit in and not that bad really. ive been in a 32 and really theres not all that much in it, especialy if u change to sports steering wheel and maybe to a bucket seat. i prefer the look of a 32 myself over s13, but then again as long as your tasteful an s13 can look just as good really. just it usualy needs a bit of a kit whereas a spoilerless dumped 32 looks great, nice and clean. my s13 mod for mod beat similar modded 32s due to the wieight advantage, and both can be made to handle well. 32s seem to have a bit more sort of prestige to them, where s13s r just thrash about kinda cars. id say just simply test drive each. and test drive ones in your price range though. for the money u have u could get an s13 with full exhaust, FMIC, boost controller, and maybe some otehr goodies, whereas ur 32 would be pretty stock (and thus a fair bit slower, until u fork out the extra say 3k or so to get it up to spec of the s13). and once uve spent that extra 3k u could have splashed out on a really good s13 which would be around 16/17. up to personal preference really i guess!

RB engines are the bomb.

i have a r32, i have driven a LOT of s13s and stuff...

i used to own a vl, and for me, it was a better transition from vl to skyline because they weigh similar and to me, feel the same when driving (except when pushing hard through corners)

Depends what you want from a car. I feel the s13 (early models 89-95) look extremely cheap inside, the dash, seats etc. The s13s i have driven have had suspension upgrades but i cant believe how nimble they feel, i had extreme confidence driving them hard when i stepped into them.

Since getting my r32, i havent looked back... The gearboxes in them are gay, but what can you do? Visually there is so much you can do to an r32 to enhance them, parts are plentiful... also if you buy a r32, and dont like it... you can always sell it and go the s13 or vice-versa.

Goodluck with it!

Mate both engines are tops!

I would personally go for the 32 in terms of style, better interior, better brakes, better resale. I think that overall skylnes are better looked after compared to s13's.

$12 500 sounds good - thats about what i paid for mine a year ago (was pretty much stock).

93 model r32s are the best for sure, they have updated interiors, cupholders which is also a double hight console so comfy

and they dont look bad once you have a kit on them

thats me :headspin:

Cheers for the comments guys. Im going to have a look at an R32 in about an hour. It's an older one 1989, but appears to be in very good condition. One of my mates had a look at is yesterday and reckons it's clean as. 113,000 clicks shouldn't be to bad. I got myself a set of R32 TEIN HE coil overs pretty well priced so at least i've got suspension sorted, to me that's more important than power mods at first. What's a decent turbo back exaust going to cost out of curiosity?
