Okay, i did a search but came up a bit empty handed as what i found was mostly 044 related.

I have noticed at the bottom of my 040 that it is flat with a screen. There is no provision to thread a barb fitting into so as to attach the original pick up. I have noticed that 044 have this provision,

I havent removed the original pump from my car yet, i wanted to make sure i had it all figured before i attempted

Should i just throw it in with what is provided or is there some way to attach original pick up that im not aware of? Any comments from those that have fitted 040?

Any help appreciated.

i think the boys made a custom barbed fitting for the pump as i use one of these pumps in my gtr as a lift pump.very easy to fit after that with the use of a hose clamp

On the std R32 bracket assembly there is a bottom plate that sits under and supports the std pump. I cut that flat section off, then using Stainless Steel hose clamps i fastened the bigger 040 fuel pump to the std bracket.

Using a bit of fuel hose i connected the new pump to the suction line of the bracket, which needed to bb trimmed back about 25mm (just measure it up, but it does need to be trimmed back a little)

I set the gauze of the new pump to sit 15mm from the deck of the tank (im not sure if this height is optimum...mine seems to sound as though it suxks a bit of air from time to time...or perhaps its too close and doing the vacuum cleaner trick and suckign to the tank bottom, but i think its more likely air, the tank and mount are too rigid top be getting that close)

But with using the stainless clamps the height can be easily changed if need be.

Also because the return line returns right near the gauze pick up, when my tank got a little low then it used to aerate the fuel, which made the pump suck a bit of air and be a little noisy from time to time. Simple fix is to attach some fuel line to the return line and divert the retuen away from the suction of the pump.

Oh and the terminal sizes are different to, so you will need to buy some bigger terminals for wiring it up...and last tidbit of info is be careful not to stretch the std o-ring around the top of the tank too much, as mine was old and has strecthed so that it is a few mm too big to seal properly.

Yhea like roy said, make sure you get the height correct from the deck. originally mine sounded like it sucked air when the tank was low and on a couple of occasions when going up a steep hill and giving it some gas, it would give a quick jerk (obviously not getting any fuel. so get the height right and its a piece of cake to fit.

It might be a piece of cake to fit......but how do you reatach it and the sender back to the car. I did the swap allright , incidently the "ugraded" pump in situ is apparrantly a VN pump it's about 2/3 the size of the stocky and just couldn't hack it. I spent about 2 hours trying to fit the pump back in but just couldn't figure it out so they are just sitting in there ( the way they were when I opened the tank up)

Got the 040 pump through my local Aussie Auto for $290 Alderly store, 2 hours from phone order to pick up.

addit: Incidently the 040 fuel outlet contains a one way valve, even if you remove this the inside diameter of the outlet is only about 3.2mm. I assume everyone does as I did and threw the whole thing away replacing it with an outle inside diam 8mm. Maybe this is why SydneyKids quoted output is so much higher than the Bosch site's figures
