I have stock 03 Coupe headlights (appear to be Halogen as it is sort of a yellowish colour) and my right light is burnt out and left starting to go as well.

I'm going to purchase these HID aftermarket lights - http://www.importmonster.com.au/view?url=http://page17.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v258400887&thumb=http://auctions.c.yimg.jp/f42batchimg.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/users/7/2/8/7/crystaleye78-thumb-1305511072260843.jpg&title=V35

Now i'm not after any comments about quality or what-not, all i need to know is if these new HID lights will plug straight in even though my stock lights AREN'T HID.

Feedback would be greatly appreciate as i'm having next to no luck getting answers if these will work or not,

Thanks

EDIT:

Just re-read the translate and it says: HID low beam unit will be of genuine use

So to me it sounds like you need to use the Standard HID's from your old light in this one. Reading further down sort of confirms that but I wont get into it anymore

So basically by the sounds of it, it should all plug in and you can continue to use Halogen globes with it, or just buy a HID conversion kit for it

None of the ones in the group buy had HID kits... You will need to use the ones off you existing set, if your existing set doesnt have them then they are $100 each ballast + ignitor cable from USA ex postage

I think i will spend the extra money and buy the full HID kit, i just don't know if there's many variations of them or if there is just a regular HID kit i can use to make all of this work.

I just hope if i do spend ~$700 that ALL of the functions are going to work IE. indicators, low beam, high beam, the LED strip on the side with parkers. Fingers crossed.. i will do more research though before buying. Thanks for your help

Well you could go with them but proper HID's require a conversion kit, which is simply a globe connected to wires connected to a ballast (power booster outlet thingy) connected to wires which plug into ur stock wires running to the power, this means a complete change in shit, I had to pull the stock globes out and corresponding wires, cut a 20mm Hole in the back of the low beam cap that screws into the back of the headlight and run the new HID globe n wires through it, which then connects to the ballest which u mount onto the engine bay somewhere, dw you get mounting brackets, then plug into the ground wires etc. running to the power source. So if u want to go proper HID's in a V35 coupe, ur gonna need to cut a hole in the headlight cap, the old plugs still sit there so if need to u can just plug in the stock shit again but if u take the head light out and look at the back, ull know what I mean, to run the extra cables for HID's youll need to cut a hole, but if u want to just change the colour to a white/blue bulb n use stock system thts fine, proper HID's need a conversion kit with ballasts, oh and mounting them in a B***H, I just cable tyed them as best I could haha

I think i'm having a change in heart. If i went for the 06 G35 Projector headlights would it be possible to aim them far enough down/left to make them like our RHD lights? Every JDM set i find seems to be shit quality and i've heard really good things about the G35 Projectors.

UNLESS the 06 V35 Coupe comes with projectors the same as the G35 ones but RHD?

Yeah f**k it, all these other lights i've found look okay but seem to be way too much of a f**k around to install and swap out for the old ones so i'm going to pull the trigger and go for it.

I know how to aim the lights anyway and i'm sure they aren't THAT far off considering both V35/G35 have the same front so why would the lights be facing the complete opposite way?

The lights face different directions so that they light up the appropriate side of the road.

However, BMW headlights have to be borderline illegal! How many times have you been blinded by those stupid headlights? It's not mercs or audis, damn BMWs!!! Grrr rage

it isn't a matter of aiming, it is an issue of the shape of the light pattern. RHD headlights have a light pattern that 'kicks up' on the left to properly light the left side of the road. LHD light pattern kicks up on the right.. straight into the face of oncomming drivers.. if you tried to adjust a LHD head light low enough to stop it blinding oncomming drivers, the main light pattern would be so low that you wouldn't be able to see much more than 2 M in front of your car! I have head stories of people dismantling the projector headlight and removing part of the reflector to make the light pattern flat, which I imagine would then be legal. no idea if you can do this with G35 headlights though.

You can be defected for using LHD headlights here. besides the inconsiderate issue.

Thanks for the input mate, i'm getting in contact with Import Monster to get them to source me some JDM projectors that plug straight in. Literally next to no luck finding these lights online though it's stupid.

D2R is the type of HID light used by the manufacturer for low beam. if you car was properly complied after import, the HIDs would have been removed and replaced with halogen lamps. looks like the low beam reflector has falled off on yours, but I can't really see the actual lamp properly.

The High beam and fog lamp section is a halogen lamp from the factory. the easiest way to tell if you have HIDs is to watch them when you turn them on, they generally take a few seconds to reach full brightness and tend to be a bit bluish until they have properly warmed up. Halogens are generally at at full brightness almost immedeatly (less than 1 second).
