So,

I was thinking about this today.

Buying a great wall vehicle.

We all know that they are a wee bit ruff round the edges, and the 4 cylinder Mitsubishi engine's in them really need to be driven hard, but for the price, and the fact some models look quite alright, would YOU ever consider buying one?

For me, I think another year or 2 of the brand growing establishing, and diversifing in Australia, and, regarding the price point stayed the same, I think I'd consider one.

We got the X200 4WD Turbo Diesel model.

A few small hiccups here and there but the Great Wall dealer sorted them out.

They also did a re-flash of the ECU after the first general service and the car runs smoother now.

Quite spacious and comfortable as well.

Has all the extras and luxuries of what most new 4x4's have these days.

I would definitely not recommend these cars, they depreciate extremely bad. I had a customer trade in his 2008 (i dont remember) Ute that had a pissy little 1.8L engine that covered 1/4 of the engine bay and had NO guts. He lost 14 grand in 2 years.

Have a look at this crash test from the Great Wall then the Ford Ranger, the Ford has a better cabin design and crumble zone sections and the cabin dose not deform along the cant rail section, doors don’t overlap after the accident ect. If you have any care on safety for your family you would not buy a Great Wall they are 10 years behind safety.

Not just the fact that these cars are going to squash your entire family in an accident, but they aren't mechanically sound and have a horrible resale value. I just asked my boss "do you know much about Great Walls?"

His reply was "Yep, they're f*cking sh*t my son repairs 1 a week with rust", haha.

To be fair of course they are 10 years behind in safety cause it is an over 10yr old chassis designed by Isuzu..

The ranger on the other hand is ford/mazdas latest design and currently quite a bit more expensive...

But yes anyone considering buying a 10+ year old car brand new is obviously just blinded by clever marketing..

just go buy a second hand rodeo for 10-12k...its the same car if not better...

People tend to caught up on purchase price when buying, spend $40k and lose $10k, it's heaps better value than spending $30k and losing $20k. As said above buy a few years old Navara, Triton, Hilux etc. Let someone else pay the new car depreciation.

Yes I would buy one if I need a truck that I didn't worry about getting dings at the shopping center from soccer mum's in their 4x4s.

As for the crash test, I doubt my R33 would fair any better, the thing doesn't even have airbags nor ABS (never needed ABS so far... *touch wood*).

Fact to back up how 'safe' they are...

The great wall is a EPIC fail

Fellow i know bought one, the dash cracked down the middle after about 6 months of use, "sun damage" they TRIED to put it down to...

Like others have said, buy a used Toyota or Nissan etc, Actually a mate of mine just picked up a Ford Ranger from the auctions last week, very well priced for its age and condition, may be worth looking into that too.
