So i've had this a few times now, most recently the last couple of days. S2 R33 rb25det automatique', mostly stock- fmic, exhaust, 3deg retard on cam gear, iridium plugs in whatever stock range is, 6 or something,& tomei fuel pump. Not really been driving the car at all except to and from work in peak hour for the last week, alot of idling time and light throttle. Car started running and idling like ass, coughing/spluttering like it had lung-aids or something. Boost gauge drops from idling around -81 to -65 whenever this happens. I'm madly checking for vac leaks, misfiring coils, faulty cas, afm, oxy etc, can't find anything. So I take it out and cain the crap out of it tonight with a few full throttle runs and basically giving it a bit on an extended drive, and what do you know, back to pulling -81 at idle and running much better.I'm putting it down to fouled plugs or maybe injectors overdue for a clean....So this is what the rb25's love, a good bit of throttle, none of this touchy feely treat me gently shite?

They love it in and around their intake

that would explain the....buildup...... that i've seen in the intake manifold

my guess is you were driving it like a nancy boy and the car was rejecting you
I treat my cars like I treat your mum...get inside her twice a day and take her to heaven and hell and back..

oh man....it's obviously not impressing your car, check the light on the ecu, it'll be flashing pink, which is the nancy fault

i have got nearly same issue but car turns off when on idle like as soon as i push the clutch this happens when hot, i have friends saying injectors need a clean and new spark plugs because they would be rot from too much heat because of the injectors that are stuffed car sounding like shit atm. i drive the like pretty much like nancy boy every day but give it a flog once in a while lolz but no time to take it out but it couldnt be because of that?

if you hit the shit out of your turbo with a cane at least 3 times a week it'll make the motor stronger and might even net you some kw

Im guessing thats an asian father type encouragement

*hit him with book to make him smarter*

*whip him with caine like animal to make him faster*

I understand.

atmo blow off valve is your trouble buddy

when i was a kid in school, id ask my asian friends why they flog me in the maths tests

they said coz their dads would flog them with the maths text book if they didnt

aint no dictionary big enough to have fixed that test tho, fkrs.

so anyway back on T for this mofo. So the next day car was running like shite again...pulled the plugs and no signs of fouling, in fact some might say a little toooo clean. Gave it the ol' rev-ism a bit more and all good so I have NFI. Anyway have dude coming to clean injectors so will see if that makes sweet f/a difference.

i fixed my car turning off issue and it was the coilpack harness now it just sounds like shit car all shakeing and stuff please let me know if it ur injectors because i will also get mien clean but i think i got exhaust leaks i think i should fix that o2 sensor off the cat first, so if your injector clean dont work try a different coil pack harness, i only noticed because car seemed like it was searching for something like you hear slight rev change on idle, after the coilpack harness change i havent got that issue and it doesnt shut off on me no more :D

    • Got the motor out and torn down. I'll be dropping off the block Monday. Luckily the scoring on Cyl6 is much less pronounced then the pictures made it out to seem. It can barely be felt. If you pass your finger over it 10x you'll barely notice it. Hopefully by some chance it will only require a honing. I'm not in the mood to buy one size larger pistons or another block. Oddly enough my 6th cylinder with the scoring has extremely clean intake valves compared to my other 5 cylinders. I'm worried the scoring was caused by too much fuel or Water/Methanol washing the cylinder. I'll review some old logs to confirm.  This was also the first time I pull an engine with the transmission still attached. It went much better then expected. I was worried my CD009 wouldn't make it easy due to its sheer size but it was much easier this way.
    • From the pictures I have when doing the job the flywheel is the same diameter, I don't think they're playing weird tricks like putting weights at the outer diameter to increase flywheel inertia or anything like that. The OEM flywheel is definitely heavier, but it's not a huge difference. Quoted weight savings of the clutch is 2 kg so I can't imagine the flywheel being lighter than ~7 kg. Kind of regret not weighing it before the clutch went into the car but as far as driveability goes I have no complaints.
    • HKS trigger kit should be very easy to integrate with a Link. It's a 36-2 crank trigger. Hard part is finding the motivation to take off the timing belt and everything on the front of the engine to install it. You also need to cut out a hole in the oil pump housing so the sensor can read the trigger wheel. Changing out the cam sensor for a 24 tooth setup is probably good enough but as others have mentioned depending on what underlying assumptions are changed it becomes more of a problem. Reading the crank state off of the cam is an abstraction that works in the general case, but if you have an edge case it makes less and less sense. There is a GTX2860 gen 2 that can take a compact 5 bolt housing so it's direct bolt on but I'm not 100% sure of what's involved. Peak compressor efficiency drops off a bit on these turbos vs -5s, 77% vs 73% but you get way, way wider region of operation. The -5s have a really strange surge line in their compressor map that is all over the place. If you think the hot side on the -5s aren't open enough you can try the Tomei T550B turbos which a local tuner seems to be happy with:
