Hey,

So I just purchased a 300GT last week and was wondering if there are a few things I should know? E.g. regular cleaning

So from what I've read I should clean the throttle body every 10,000kms?

Also I realized on the fuel consumption screen that if my car is idle (waiting in traffic) the xx.x km/L drops rapidly (whole leaf turns grey), is this normal? The car has aftermarket 19" wheels if that changes anything.

I was reading the fuel consumption thread and people seem to be getting roughly 8.x or 9.x from city driving on their 350gt, I'm getting 7.5km/L from just regular driving around town which seems a lot worst than what everyone seems to be getting. I'm filling with BP Ultimate, been through 1 and a half tanks of fuel in a week..

Are there anything else I should know?

Thanks,

Richard

Why didn't you get a 350GT?!

I clean my car as much as i possibly car, basically because i like looking at a nice car showing all of it's glory. My 350GT doesn't have the T.V so no comment on that one.

Do you drive an auto or manual and does your car have CAI or an exhaust system?

^^ different states have different rules.. I believe the NSW rules specifically state 350Z and skyline 350GT as a prohibited vehicle, Vic may be the same??.. In Qld it seems to be 2 rules, and it depends who you talk to as to which one is applied.. as you say, the 350GT exceeds the kw/tonne limit.. but doesn't exceed the 210kw limit.. I am guessing that in theory... both should apply..

Before i bought the car i checked the KW restrictions and if the car was banned, and it's not. In NSW the 350GT is on the list of prohibited P plate vehicles. Unlucky!

I've never had any troubles with police whatsoever, even if these cars do turn illegal in QLD i will have an exemption because i purchased it before that came into play.

Yeah their illegal here according to the vicroads p-plate prohibited vehicles list.

Took a photo last night of the exhaust that came with the vehicle

Not too sure how many inches the straight pipe is

'test' pipes are usually a replacement for the cats. called 'test' pipes because they are illegal for road use.

In Richard's pic, it looks like they have just removed the rear muffler.. provided it isn't too loud, it won't be illegal.

Just had another look at the qld transport webpage.. it seems the general rule is less than 8 cyl, not turbocharged/supercharged (exc. diesels), less than 210kw, and no unapproved modifications.

However, if you are applying for an exemption to allow you to drive a high powered vehicle, then one of the conditions is it must be no more than 125kw/tonne.

Interesting the 350GT is not P-plate banned in Qld, but if it was, it wouldn't pass the requriements to apply for an exception... weird..

Not sure if you would get automatic excemption just because you bought the car before the rules changed either. Even for people that owned a car before 2007, need to prove there are no alternatives they can drive before they are granted an execption. and it would need to pass the 'less than 125kw/tonne' condition (which the 350GT doesn't)

Yeah consumption is normal when it hits a complete stop the leaf turns red. Should of just got a 350gt im also from melbourne and on my p's, havn't been pulled once but only just got my car 4months or 3 months ago. Hopefully i would last 4 years...

Don't drive like a tool and you'll be fine :) I've had mine 6 months or so now and only been pulled over for rbt once. Fingers crossed for both of us haha!

Yeah I was thinking of going for a 350GT anyway but not really worth the insurance fuss imo, my leaf doesn't turn red, unless that's a 350gt thing?

Richard.

The leaf dropping to grey is normal is an economy thing to do with the computer so it goes like this: When your in stop/start traffic and sometimes around town the computer will sense that your engine is running but you are not moving much and that is not considered "economical" and will turn the leaf grey and give you that 7.5 reading.

When you are highway driving, again the computer will sense that you have your engine on, travelling at a constant speed and have travelled considerable distance which is "economical" and it will stay green and should raise is to 10 (im going off mine which is a 250GT as an example)

so when it has a green leaf, put your foot down and watch the leaf turn grey and you will understand what im on about.

i get 9/10km/L around town in a 250GT

i filled my tank (till no more would go in with BP 98RON, $136 later) and it lasted a week and a half.

also remember that you are in a 3lt V6 hauling over 1.5tonne around aswell and 1/3 of your power is lost on its way to the rear wheels.

hope it makes sense.

    • I once hit my knee on an exhaust on my sisters Suzuki Sierra after she drove it her *normal* way. My knee looked like porridge for weeks. Bec and my daughters never go near this car. I can see one of my dogs losing an ear though. 🤔
    • Nice, love a good GTS-t.  IMHO the factory body kit with the 'aero' front bumper is perfect. Can't improve on it unless it's a GT-R. But it looks like you changed it to the normal bumper?
    • Easy solution to both of those. Put a split bit of garden hose on each one. Attractive and practical!
    • So I guess the next thing to do will be to discuss whether to create a new section of the forums to hold the library (boo hiss?), somewhat undoing the recent tidy up, or if there is a bolt on wiki module for Invision? (I must profess ignorance as to what has been done, what it might cost, etc. I have only briefly googled and seen discussion on adding it.) Or is a wiki even the best way to do what I'm talking about? It possibly isn't. Given that we're trying to re-display forum content, it probably needs to be presented as forum content in forum format, and a wiki would probably struggle with that. A wiki might still be the best way to do some other things, so I'll keep the idea simmering if we don't use it here. Back to the library as "part of the forums". Would we do a single new library? Or put a library thread in each section? Pluses and minuses for each of these, surely. Would we do as I originally suggested, and make the first post in the library be the total of the library, with any reply posts just being the inputs and suggestions I originally posited? Or would we allow posts to accumulate one after the other, each containing additions to the library? Maybe the first post is still an index or something. It's all sounding horribly more manual and messy than my original brain fart. But I hope there's some other good ideas floating around - because every time I come up with a new one of my own I immediately see problems with it.
