Almost 2 Weeks When Infiniti Launches Here

Recommended Posts

Doubt the release of the G37 here will have any impact at all on the V35 prices.. they are a different model and you can still get them for under $20 from Japan..

I think I have to agree with the comments on the SMH page.. the FX is kind of ugly.. but then again.. I can't say I have ever seen a SUV that I like.. they all look like sedans that have been on a mcdonalds binge..

the maxima will be replaced by the ultima which will also be the body used in V8 racing. Its pretty crap though cause the ultima available to the public will be front wheel drive like the maxima.

They should have used either the r35 or v36 sedan.

infiniti website just released prices for the sedans which will be from 90k to 105k

guess the coupe and convertible will be be north of that..

Lexus entry level IS range price range from 69k to 89k but the more similar spekd GS450 are from 94k to 132k

Then you have the Audi tt rs and TTS coupe has a 108k to 150k price tag but the you have the A5 coupe which when you look at it has very similar shaping and line to the 370 it has a price tag of 189k.

if i had those numbers to play with for 1 k less you could pick up a 012 r 35 mmm not sure what i would choose...

i thought a bit more competitive price would be needed cos the name has not got around yet i still get people asking me about the G i have the infiniti badging had one guy ask me if this is the car thats racing next...

The sedan is the M - larger and more luxury focused than the G. I think the OP was talking about the G series coupe and convertible.. there is no M coupe or convertible.

Also, it's the Altima they are using in the V8s, which is like a smaller version of the Maxima (not sure if Nissan is keeping both or ditching the Maxima). Still think it was dumb on Nissan to use a Altima in the V8 supercars, when you can't buy anything even remotely like it in a showroom.. at least with the commodores and falcons, you can buy a RWD V8 road going version.

They should have used the V37 (or new G37).. at least it is RWD and more performance oriented.

But then there would be no competition... <- Them be fighting words. Haha!

The M is sold as a V8 in the US, but not for the RHD markets like us - pity because it's a sexy car. The FX50 looks awesome in the metal too, would love to drop one a few inches and put a nice set of rims on it.

Not trying to be rude.. but I have to say I don't understand this concept.. why buy a high clearance softroader and lower it? doesn't that defeat the purpose of an SUV?

Fair enough. I guess it's my lack of appreication of SUVs and 4WDs.. I would only buy one if it's function made it necessary for me to have one.

Go the Infiniti Australian website at: http://www.infiniticars.com.au

and you'll find amongst a whole load of stuff the following:

Future Infiniti models

Two additional models – the Infiniti G Coupé and matching G Convertible – will join the Australian range from December. Further details about these two exciting models will be issued closer to their date of release. Even more exciting models are scheduled to be added from next year.

Interestingly no mention of a G series sedan initially!

They will probably test the waters with the M, if they think there is a demand, they may bring the G sedan in. Still think they should have brought the M56 in though!.. (not that I would have bought one..) but it might have stopped the media saying the Altima V8 supercar has a patrol engine.. since the M56 has been using this engine for a while and the Patrol hasn't yet..

I was thinking the same thing about the M - there were also a few posts from punters on the infiniti blog page that made it past their blog police that highlight the significant price point differences for the same models in the USA and what is proposed for here

Interesting.. they seem to think the M sedan is a 'mid-sized sedan', yet compare it to the BMW 5 series, which is hardly 'mid sized'. I would classify the G sedan as 'mid sized', but the M as 'large'

    • That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard. I would go cut bellhousing over that monstrosity of a flywheel all day, every day. It puts a lot more mass further from the last main bearing. I've had nothing but problems with Collins in the past and refuse to ever buy their products again. I would not trust anything they tell you. He's playing his salesman card.  I'm currently at 640whp on a mustang dyno (~770bhp) with the intentions of running E85 and a lot more power this upcoming spring. Cheers,
    • Nah, it's not the reduced knock margin. It is a direct mechanical effect of having to initiate the combustion earlier, while the piston is still rising, which starts to exert combustion pressure on the rising piston earlier, making the rest of the engine work harder to finish driving the piston up to TDC where the combustion pressure stops being a negative and starts being a positive. Your modern engine that only needs ~10° to make MBT doesn't waste the other 10 or so degrees of crank rotation. That's almost all of it. The difference in knock margin might go either way. Remember that modern engines to which you are currently comparing the long tractor engine (the RB) are now running super high compression, direct injection, tricky cam control and maybe even cylinder pressure sensors. You're not comparing apples with other fruit. It's apples and sea weed, or some other evolutionarily primitive vegetation. And remember, squish only really comes into play at the very end of the stroke. It certainly does good things, but it is not the biggest contributor to what's going on. It is quite possibly much less important in 4 valve head than 2 valvers also, because there is so much less squish available to a 4 valve anyway.
    • Food for thought, a longer stroke motor would need less ignition timing vs. a shorter stroke motor requiring more ignition timing.
    • Thanks Duncan, HART is only 10 mins from me (I did my bike license there), it'd be awesome if it ran these types of things.  Sutton Road does look good and they take fewer cars than SMSP which is good.  Surely you have enough land to lay a few million tonnes of concrete and some sprinklers D?
    • I thought an engine that needs more ignition timing to make power is going to result in less power due to reduced knock margin? More time for the combustion to propagate -> more time for it to heat up the rest of the mix to detonation.
