xntrq
hey guys, my wheels started to squeak recently and it's taking the piss out of me. I've found a few ways to fix it without taking things apart like heating it up by hard breaking but all have failed to stop the noise. besides changing break pads, what else could contribute to squeaking? odessy
Shot shocks can squeak? Some more description would be nice, I take it you can hear it from in the car while driving? Any other symptoms or details? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/405204-rear-wheels-squeaking-on-my-34/#findComment-6452367 Share on other sites
xntrq
It's mainly low speed like 20 kms when it starts squeaking. I assume it's break pads but I'm in doubt since when I let my breaks go and roll slow, it squeaks. Light breaking + rolling wheels = constant squeak until stop "eeeeeeeeeeeeeek" Idle rolling = umm.... "eek eek eek eek" squeak? not "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek" Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/405204-rear-wheels-squeaking-on-my-34/#findComment-6452371 Share on other sites
xntrq
also squeaks on flat surface so I doubt it's my shocks. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/405204-rear-wheels-squeaking-on-my-34/#findComment-6452372 Share on other sites
34GeeTeeTee
I would be checking your handbrake shoes etc if you don't think it's your brakes, pull the rotors off, give the drum a clean and rough up and make sure the shoes are still secure.... Just a thought Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/405204-rear-wheels-squeaking-on-my-34/#findComment-6452400 Share on other sites
xntrq
what are handbrake shoes? and I JUST REALISED i spelled Breaks wrong and one stupid question, what are those tools that you use to remove socket nuts? like the one pictured below: I got a socket set, but obviously two female sockets dont work. 34GeeTeeTee
Mate, not being an ass but if you dont have the tools to remove the wheels PLEASE don't attempt to play with the brakes man!! Safety first The handbrake is inside your rear rotor... odessy
Sounds like brake pads. You will find that there is most likely slight contact with the brake released and that is why it still makes the noise with your foot off, does the frequency of the "eeks" (lol) inrease with speed and decrease when you slow down with your foot off the brake? Safety first The handbrake is inside your rear rotor... haha I don't have the tool to take the nuts off my wheels but got jack stands and jacks. only got sockets for regular nuts, but not a head to take out socketed nuts. looking to pick one up from SuperCheap tomorrow. Sounds like brake pads. I think its louder the slower i go, when I gain speed, it quiets down and eventually at above 30 kmph, no squeals at all. odessy
^ Driven a car that had loose wheel nuts on wheel before. Wasn't so much a squeeking but more of a clunking :s. odessy
Yeah but does the time between squeeks speed up or slow down at all with respect to speed? AngryRB
check your wheel bearings too.. i think certain kinds of brake pads do make a squeal noise, sounds like the handbrake isnt releasing completely though. cree
My skyline has a similar problem, but is Intermittent. Only just bought it so haven't had any time to check what it is. It's only the left rear side and doesn't happen if i corner left. Going to check the brakes this weekend.
