Anyone else playing?

For those that don't know its a zombie survival MMO which involves you starting on a beach with nothing but a torch. You have to scavenge food, water, tools, supplies and a weapon all whilst evading the hordes of roaming zombies.

However the zombies aren't the worst danger, the biggest killer is other survivors (players), or bandits as they're better known in game. Many players out there are friendly, and are willing to team up with you, but some want to shoot you and take your gear. When you die, its permanent. You respawn back on the beach with your trusty torch, and trust me, you will die a lot.

It is an extremely satisfying game though, and I've never played anything that got my heart racing like this one. Its a free mod based on the ARMA 2 combat system, which is one of the most realistic war games ever made. Expect everything from zeroing on scopes, bullet drop, realistic gun noises and volume (which are VERY important as they attract both zombies and players), vehicle damage, etc.

On the downside its still in its alpha stages which means a lot of glitches and the occasional hacker. Although it is getting fixed quite rapidly. Mainly because it has grown even faster than Minecraft did.

Highly recommend it.

Got it going last night. six launcher won't run coz something with my .NET installation is corrupt, but at least I can run it via steam.

First impressions are the graphics ate blurry as f**k, dunno what's going on there hopefully it's just the weather in game making it look that way.

Also it's really f**king hard dealing with key bindings/run toggle...it would appear that's coz you can't run under multiple conditions like being in iron sight mode without having a gun out lol

I was a pretty heavy Arma2 player when it came out, so had no issues with controls (other than the custom inventory setup). I use 6 launcher and its ok, weekly updates and Arma2 hotfixes are annoying. but what reeeeaaaallly shits me is that you have to play off-peak because all the servers are always full.

I put about 3 hours into the game without ever finding a weapon, which is frustrating, cause even an axe just triples your chance of survival. I would play it more, but you can only really play at weird hours.

IMO Dayz has just 'cashed' in on the unscripted and chaotic fun of Arma2, which is good but doesnt give the engine or game the credit it deserves.

I also dont like running into people like this (and they are out there):

lol running into the crack head demanding trade or the guys who shot him? I'd have shot him too.

You don't have to play off-peak at all. I get into a ANZ server within 2 minutes of logging on, or you can join a US server whenever you want, which isn't bad at <200ms

stuff like that is the best part of the game, confrontation with other players and the tension that builds up makes for some great gameplay and some of the best stories come out of it

in what other games can you lure people into a trap lol

I've been playing this mod for about 2weeks now. Here's a hint, don't trust ANYONE bearing a weapon -_-'

Gathered heaps of shit for 2days then had two guys walk up yelling 'Friendly, friendly!' Then one went behind me and hit me with a crowbar. It's good fun but after the recent patch last night, I think there might be a memory leak or something. I dropped from a constant 50fps+ down to 13fps. Nothing I could do to fix it, deleting the dayz folder was a temp solution... for about 40mins.

I spent the whole day today trying to get this game working.

Downloaded the pack last night

Went to Dayz website and downloaded the game.

Followed all the things to get it loaded.

Now any server I join says I have the wrong version and I for the life of me cant work out how to update.

I have downloaded and installed so many fricken things

    • So recently at the track had experienced a loss of throttle after a period of WOT after installing the emtron ecu, recently did some logging to troubleshoot the issue and found the ECU was cutting due to a low oil pressure issue. Going over the log can see that while accelerating at 4k rpm will see 100 PSI of pressure and holding steady at that level until getting off the throttle which then after can see as low as 25 PSI at 3-4k rpm and will recover back to a normal level after that.   Wondering if anyone has an idea what could be the cause as it just feels abit strange and i dont feel like it could be a sensor issues just due to it clearly sitting at a good pressure until off throttle, in the attached can see a 3rd and 4th gear pull but can even perform great through 3 and 4 gears of WOT but still once off throttle and getting back on it will see pressure drop.
    • There are a few different ways of doing it. I'm currently running two 1000cc pre-TB nozzles and PWM the pump for control. I'll be moving over to a constant pressure system and direct port. I'll run the pump off a regular relay, have it cycle on roughly 5psi before I start injecting to build pressure and then PWM a WMI solenoid (It's basically an injector that can take a lot of pressure and not corrode with water and meth.) The solenoid feeds the 6 direct port ~200cc nozzles. I'll also keep one ~250cc pre-TB nozzle to help keep IAT's in check.  Safety will be a little different as well. I used to use a pressure switch but will be moving over to a pressure sensor between my solenoid and nozzles. I'll trigger my solenoid and if I don't see specific pressure within a specific timeframe (e.g 100psi within a second, 175psi within 2 seconds), I kill it and revert back to non WMI maps the same way I did it before with 4D in Haltech. I was just figuring out the timers in my ecu last night. They made that a little more complicated than I would have liked... I wish Haltech offered a larger set of logic/math functions like other ecu's do. I can't do very much with just AND's and OR's.  I've been asked to do fuel/ignition mapping on a medium bore engine at work in May (192L V16). Being the only programmer in my region and having went and opened my mouth about knowing the ins and outs of fuel/ignition mapping, I have now been deemed an expert. Fun fun. The entirety of the logic and algorithms are programmed in C on a PLC. As I spend more time figuring it all out, I like what I see and eventually I may consider doing the same as a pet project to replace my ecu.
    • This would be interesting, would you feed it via a 2nd row of injectors? Or just usual WMI nozzles?
    • Cut sump up and extend. Win win 😂
