Hi guys,

I know this sounds kinda weird posting here. But ummm...does anyone here do IT network security or is a security analyst? Stuff like pen-testing, IDS, audits etc?

I want to get into the field, coming from a unix sysad background. But these jobs seem quite rare around here. Is anyone perchance doing something like that? How did you get in?

thanks fellas!

I'm a network security consultant.... working for a large global IT corporation. my work involves risk assessments, pen-testing, consulting, and other work in network security, it's all good stuff. Nothing better than being paid to do something u love :D

There's alot of security jobs up in Canberra if you're willing to live there :) mostly government, DSD and Department of Defence work, which you will need security clearance to do.

As for getting into the field, it's not easy to just jump on board as there are always more experienced security professionals out there with several years experience working in security. Try going for some security specific certifications, like CISSP, GCFW, GCFA (forensic analyst), or CISA if you want to be an auditor. Having a strong knowledge of security concepts and architecture will give you a good start.
