That is only half the mod, the main issue is that the wires are too small and can't carry the current.

If you got the car tuned with the wiring stock you will have to retune the idle and low end.

The pump is actually supplying full fuel pressure now that you have supplied it with full voltage at idle. Walbro's (and most aftermarked pumps) require full 14v constant voltage for this reason, they can even fail from overloading as when voltage drops, current drawn goes up.
